I'm laid up with a cast on my foot up to my knee and the other leg is getting all hot and stuff! I don't know how that happens but my other leg must just be hulking up to take over the body or something since the left leg is still unusable essentially haha. Yeah, I think we all sold a little of ourselves to the devil by having the surgery.....oh well.

Sounds like maybe after the new year, your bones will be stable enough to do some balance work or stretch band stuff. You may get "stinky cast," but what the heck. Check with your doctor, but at the very least you should be able to do "Skater" type stuff with the cast foot in the air. And certainly pullups and then dog-leg pushups with the cast in the air. The ice skater motions work the core most directly. Stand on your good leg and lift your cast leg to more or less knee level. Then do a speed skating motion where the cast foot crosses past the other foot. Of course, you'll need to twist the shoulders and move the forearms across the other way to compensate. If balance or hitting your cast on the floor is a problem, use a wall to maintain balance. If this gets too easy, then stand still with the knee locked or bent slightly and bend at the waist putting both hands behind you. If it's still too easy then bend more. Feel it in the lower back and butt? My understanding is, that this will work the lumbar region, butt and upper legs without putting pressure on the spine. Also, the more cardio tolerance you develop from it, the farther you can bend forward. Or, if you're still in the upright "Skater", you can move the cast leg further past the good one or take the motion faster.

You'll need to be careful not to take this more than 5-10 minutes at a time on that one leg or not do it at all if you have knee problems. This is where the dog leg pushups and pullups come in. If the pullups hurt your back, then try doing them with your thighs pulled toward your chest.

Just some stuff I picked up from "Power Yoga" and P90X. When you do multiple commercial course, you can tell which exercises are the most effective. The ones I just gave you are pretty much replicated in some way in all of the popular fitness programs.

I am with you on this one!!

I have been doing really well, till Thanksgiving. I started eating dessert, Had a piece of cherry pie - only a half. Then I did it again, and again. Desserts are one of my triggers. Then for Christmas, I started hitting the potato chips and the cookies. Gained 3 pounds each holiday. Not bad, but a definite move in the wrong direction.

I have kicked my own azz and am back with the program.

I think it is subliminal messages. I gain just by looking at this stuff.

OK, I'm guilty too.  Aafter 4 months of being on the right path, this week I did slip a few times.  My 4 year old forced me to cook ginger bread christmas cookies, so they were sitting around a few days.  I probably had 2 a day the past 3 days.  I will now go say my hail mary's.

I don't rightly know what it means, but for the past couple years (even before WLS) around the holidays I lose my appetite. Especially this year I had nothing compared to my family members. I ate a little here and there but I broke my foot before Christmas so I don't know if it's because of that like I know if I eat I won't be able to exerices type of thing or what but my appetite is really lacking. Oh well, I guess food is overrated anyway. I am enjoying my ps3 and flatscreen television though...Santa is good, isn't he? Well, he's good when he's not you I guess.

I hear you, I have been eating like crap since thanksgiving.
I'm just 8 pounds away from my goal weight and I can't seem to get on track.
I have about 25 days to lose those 8 pounds.  It was my goal to be at goal weight by my 1 year anniversary.  I can't seem to keep from putting this food in my face lately.

It must be a self destructive behavior.
Good luck getting through the holidays everyone.

Scott

Oh Man!  I'm right there with you too.  Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays, but I am SO glad that they are over.  I started screwing up around Thanksgiving and continued through Christmas.  It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who is having issues this time of year.  I'm back on track as of today.  Best of luck to everyone in the new year.

I made it through T-day. I made it through Christmas Eve and day. I did NOT make it through Sunday. I Started out with scones moved on to cookies and through each phase I felt sick and then got better only to start again like I was THAT stupid. Even had the foamies that I have never had before. It was awful. But as soon as I felt better those cookies were screaming my name. I mean SCREAMING!

Please let all the good ones be gone before I get home tonight. At least I am away from them all day. I had great control and then the damn broke and even the negative effects barley stopped me. And than only for a while.

If I can just stop from eating the first sweet or carb I am pretty good. But I already ate two mini reeces peanut butter cups. Damn the office candy dish! chili for early lunch. All meat! Let me be full!!

It's so sad that they can't fix our heads during surgery. I have been REALLY bad this holiday season. Since I don't dump AT ALL I have been able to put down quite a bit of sweets. No where near the amount I used to be able to but still enough to be dangerous.

Luckily, I still dropped a pound post-holiday and I figure as long as I'm still hitting the gym hard and I'm at my goal weight, I should be able to reward myself once in a while.

I really need to get back on track January 1st though. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one.
