Ok as of january 11 I will be 5 months out down from 297 to 215. I have no problems in eating or have I had any complications during this journey. I work shift work and Im grazing all the time. When Im home I dont graze, actually sometimes I dont even eat. I have noticed I can already eat a child size portion when I eat but breakfast I can hardly eat much at all. I have been eating carbs even sweets but not all the time . The sweets I eat have been sugar free except during the holidays I did eat some pie and cake. When I eat Ive noticed I eat fast, like Ive been starving. I know I need to get back to the basics but why am I already having these issues so early ? Im not sure if Im getting my recommended fluid in each day. Why in the heck am I hungrier now, I remember when I could eat 2 bites and be satisfied for a long while. I feel like Im gonna fail and I am wanting yalls support now before it gets way out of control. Those of you that have experienced what Im going through and figured this out please let me know what Im doing wrong  and kick my butt to get back on track. Im affraid Ive stretched my stomach,is that possible this early ? I have been going out lately and usually have a beer or 2, just to be social. My goal weight is 185,Ive been stuck around 215 for over 2-3 weeks. I need some good advice, I need  to know why Im getting head hunger so early out. I need to know if this is normal. Is my weight loss done  ? Is my honey moon period already over ?

One order of butt kicking coming up! (WLS friendly sized, of course)

Docmaster, put down the beer for starters.  I don't have issues with the drinking itself.  Beer?  The carbonation alone would have me kneeling at the porcelain god.  You can be sociable with a glass of water in your hand as well.

Eating sweets!  Right move with the SF stuff but apparently you are not a dumper, if you're an RNY, and you need to keep that information in mind and use it to keep you away from sweets.  If you have not heard SF candy can make you fart and **** like a cow on fresh pasture.

Fluids - I'm in the same boat with you on that one.  Need to up my water myself.  Most of mine, now that it is winter time, is coming in the form of iced tea or Starbucks.

Know shift work is a ***** from first hand experience.  You are grazing because it was shown in studies that workers on evening and overnight shifts compensate for lack of sleep by an increase of food - in particular carbs!  Why?  Carbs = energy.  My suggestion would be look at your sleep situation.  Do you stay up and watch TV in the morning?  Any kids at home when trying to sleep?  What about coffee?  How much do you drink at work?  Even so called "decaf" still has some bite in it.  Depending on if you work 8's, 10's or 12's can you find time for some exercise before going to work?  Would not recommend working out before bed because that would work against you trying to get some good sleep.

Hopefully some of this can help.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

When I reached my goal at 6 months I started to get into carbs and sugar...since I found out I didn't dump (just one time in 6 months).  Big mistake.  I went from 190 to 215.  I even started drinking Pepsi again!!  Talk about stupid!!  I've been there and done that.  Get back to the basic protein, get more and more vegetables in.  If it is carbs, make sure it is boring whole grain stuff (and not to much).  The other thing I did (since the carbs and sugar sent me back to 215), I walked.  I walked when I had any energy at all.  Just got out and moved.  It kept me away from the food and it helped me get a good night sleep.  WLS is a tool...we need to use it.  Here's looking at size 36 pants!!  Brian

Plan your meals and snacks, it doesn't matter if you are at home or work.  You know grazing is a no-no so don't do it.  Get some Kashi bars in your pocket at work for your snacks, they have a combination of protien and digestable carbs.  You need to remember that processed sugars will not give you the energy you need to keep moving so you need to pay attention to the ingredients on the labels.

When you had surgery you decided to change your eating habits for life!!!  Man up and do it.

Doc, I totally feel you on this one. Although our situations are not identical they are similar. Through the holidays I have been eating way too much junk food. I told myself after this weekend I was getting back on track and limiting myself to just one "dessert" a week.

Like they say, the surgery is only on the body not on the mind. So we have to learn how to change our minds so we don't eat and look at food like we did pre-op.

Luckily for me I have been running and doing my workouts at the gym regularly for the past 18 months so I can afford a few extra cheats. But I know it isn't good for me and I'm going to work on cutting them out again.

I feel the same about the stretching but like you said, in the morning the pouch is really limited so you know you still have restriction. Like someone else mentioned, plan your meals and make sure you're eating something "healthy" every 2-3 hours so you don't let yourself get to the point of hunger where you just want to shove down anything in sight, which most of the time is junk food.

Good luck to you and stay focused!

I feel you on the shift work issue, 12 year rotating shift verteran here.  I feel that the shift work is sort of what got me to where I was.  The beer is bad news.  I tried it once since surgery and not only did it kill me from the "bubbles", but after a mere 2 bottles I was a sloppy, babbling drunk!  This from a guy who took alcohol consuption to an artform thru college and my mid 20's!  LOL

What I have tried to do at work is bring whatever I'm going to snack with me.  Keeps me away from the vending machines.  If I don't bring it, I don't eat it.  I try to stick with the protien/granola type bars, crackers, etc.

I don't think you've "stretched" your pouch at this point.  Some people (like myself also) are just more tolerant than others.  My wife (also RNY) can't touch sugar, whereas I can eat just about what I want.  Kind of makes me wish the crap made me sick.
