Yipes! I got weighed today.
Now I can't claim to be the weight I was 9-12 months ago. That's the last time I was weighed. Today I weigh 391 lbs. That gives me a starting point to to diet even though I am 4 years post-op. And, I have a method to help me.
I've been writing about the Beck Diet Solution. A lot of you probably do many of the suggestions in the book. Some of the ones that are really helping me are to plan my meals, weigh and measure my food, and to record what I have eaten. I don't actually start the "diet" until sometime next week. But, since I should have been following my post-op diet all along, I've been making an effort to implement some of the suggestions already. I just remind myself to be easy on myself since I really don't know how to combat between meal cravings.
By the way, some of you may start out with the same sabotaging thought that I did. That was, " how am I ever going find room for all of these notes in my wallet?" I could see how a woman could put them in a purse but I don't want to carry man purse. After thinking about it for a day, I came up with the following helpful response: I can cite only those reasons that most apply to me, copy key phrases from response cards, and eventually put successive lessons on fewer sheets of paper. That is, I can initially write things on individual notes or cards and then type them onto a single sheet of paper. If I put all of my notes in a file on my computer, I can edit them down onto a sheet of paper. I can eventually type more notes on the reverse side of the sheets. Thus, I save myself the thickness of all of the pages I thought I'd have to deal with. Hey, I overcame my first doubt about the program. Bob

You can get real small spiral bound notebook that is small enough to fit in your shirt pocket or you could get yourself a palm and you can put documents in it, take memos and it is a great organizer. You can also get programs for to help you track, calorie king makes a great one. It has a database of foods in it that lets you choose the food you ate and the amount it then tracks calories, protien, carbs, etc.. My wife as the tungestin E palm and I have the palm t/x and use a different tracking program. By the ay I just got a copy of the beck workbook for my wife and I. Keep up the good work.

Hey Bob,
It really sounds like you are getting organized. I use my Palm TX to track my food intake and exercies with a program called weight by date. I can run it on my PC as well as the palm and they just share the information. I really like it. I track my sodium, calories, fiber, calcium, B vitamins. It will track your weight loss and predict when you will reach your goal etc. The web site has examples of what the program can do. You just enter how much of something you eat in cups, tablespoons or grams and it figures out the nutrtion.
keep up the good work and keep yourself on track and you will succeed.

I appreciate your responses. I'll use a 3" X 5" pocket spiral notebook. But, I can't get a palm or other electronic organizer because I can't afford it. We have money put aside, but I'm afraid my furnace can go at any moment ( it was here when we bought our house 29years ago) . We'll need a chunk of bucks for that. Bob
