Hello all,
I'm at 5 months and very nearly to my goal weight. I'm curious as to what my caloric intake and mix should be when I get there. I understand that activity plays a big part but I'm looking for "generic" guidelines.
I am male, 6' tall, currently weigh 184 with a goal of 170-175. Moderatly active at work and home but not that great in the gym.
Any suggestions?
Thanx,
Jim

I can only go with what I've been told.  I'am 3 mos out and shedding.  When u hit your target you should be in a new eating habit and exercise program.  Walking, biking stair climbing.  I've been told that if I dont exercise the lbs will come back.  In my case lack of good exeercise and calorie burning was a problem
Good luck

The daily recommended calorie intake for adult males is about 2.000 calories per labels on foods.  I assume that's to maintain a weight of about 165-175.  The labels don't tell you the exact weight to be maintained.  Ask you bariatric surgeon's office for a maintenance diet.  I'm currently using a food addict's diet and counting calories and protein grams.  Since I'm trying to lose weight at a steady pace at 4 years post op, I'm trying to stay at 1600 cal/day.  I rarely go under it and I sometimes go a bit over it.  I don't worry about that because I'd have to eat a lot more calories to maintain my current weight of 386.

Jim, you are going to have to find your own "ballancing point".  Our digestive systems can take from 1 to 4 years to adjust to the surgery.  Since we are missing 2 1/2 feet of the small intestine and we all work differently we all take a different amount of time to adjust.  That 2 1/2 feet of your intestine may have been where you were digesting carbs where mine might have been where I was digesting protien, it takes a while for our body to figure this out and adjust.  Ballancing protien, carbs, fat and fibre will be the hardest part of your maintenance and there are no short cuts it's all trial and error.  And error sucks  LOL.  Here is what I eat:

3/4 cup Kashi Go Lean, 2 TBS of flax seed with whole milk (I need the fat in the whole milk)
Ham, swiss and lettice sandwich on 1 slice whole grain bread, glass of milk
Kashi bar
4 oz meat, veggie, and a starch (i like rice, it digest easily)
leftover meat on 1 slice whole grain bread
3/4 cup Kashi Go Lean with whole milk

Depending on what's in the fridge I make substitutions, but this is what works for me.  When I snack I eat cheezits, they are crunchy and have some protien.

Good luck, it took me a couple of years to find my balancing point.

Robert
