Went to the doctor for my 6 months check up and he told my to cut out carbs. Not being the smartest eater, I dont know what carbs he is talking about.  So could anybody please help.  I made an appointment with the NUT, but that is not till march 2nd.

I'll just throw out some of the "bad" carbs.  All types of breads, crackers, cakes, pasta, rice, and potatoes.  Good carbs are things like nutr. fruits (not things like watermelon or pineapple).  In general, you should head back to protein and vegetables.  Brian

PS...Two other things...whole grain crackers are a "good" carb.  The one thing I did early on post op was become a label reader.  The other thing is a small warning...watch your sugar intake.  For me it just started creeping up on me...(I found I didn't dump much)...so a piece of candy here...a 1/2 of Hershey bar there...a 1/2 a can of Pepsi somewhere else.  I didn't cut sugar out completely...I just try and limit my use to about 1-1/2 teaspoons a day.  Don't fool yourself in that area...From someone who went down that road (and wished he didn't).

It's funny because my CNP actually told me to up my carbs. She said because I was working out regularly, my body actually needed them for energy. I guess everyone is different.

For you, watch out for anything made with white flour, or white rice. If you eat any carbs at all, make sure they come from whole grains or oatmeal or something like that. Sugar is also a carb but most likely you're not eating that.

Just curious and wanted to ask. What was his reason behind asking you to cut out carbs? Like Brian says "all carbs are not created equal." Grapefruit, on paper  for example contains considerable carbs, but they think it aids in weight loss because few if any of the carbs get absorbed. So in effect it may be a "low carb food."

Carbs in processed food can make even post op people gain weight. It's best to get carbs from stuff that's full of cellulose (fiber) like fruit and beans. Some exceptions being raisins and other sugary stuff, but even those are a good sports drink replacement before a hard bout of exercise

...but beans cooked to "mush" could be a different story. Burrito mush beans probably count as processed simple carbs, like mashed potatoes or flour (which by the way, may be worse metabolically even than sugar itself).
