Ab Synergy - A Combination of Exercise Types
Guys,
I was thinking about additional factors that cause good abs. Of course, you have to do a variety of ab work to get a six pack. Not only pulling the legs up and doing isometric stuff like anything which holds the pushup position, but also twisting stuff. I use a twisting machine, but you can sit back to back with a partner and pass an 8-10 lb medicine ball in circles. Then there are side bends. You can use a cable and bend through the entire range or put a 30-40 lb plate on your shoulders behind your head and bend left to right.
Yesterday, I posted about ab muscles becoming more prominent and waist slimmer looking after front and back stretches. But there is another factor. Getting really really out of breath, also forces you to use the abs to breathe. Sprints are great for that, as is hot yoga, but as far as I can see, the only benefits of hot yoga over cold are the lengthy cardio and that if you do it repeatedly and then do a DVD on your own along with it, you'll get proficient at many of the basic yoga moves. Bending from yoga or stretching also gets you out of breath and forces you to use the ab muscles, as well. Then there's the fat burning you get from that.
So intense cardio work and bending if you are able (watch the back injuries) are just important to abs and waist as any exercises which work directly on the abs.
Best Wishes,
Dave
