Surgery was yesterday, feeling great!
Hi all,
I had my RNY yesterday. I'm feeling very grateful and a great sense of relief after finally having this surgery. I hope to use my new tool as a way to finally get to my goal. I've fought so hard for so many years, being the fattest guy at the gym, but spending more time there than anyone I know. Being able to have some success, only to see the weight come back. I've been obese since 2nd grade and I'm 45 now, so the battle will continue, but now I feel like I have a fighting chance.
The surgery and aftermath have been very smooth. I'm feeling good, no nausea, I have been walking up and down the halls and I'll be going home tomorrow if all continues to go well.

Great, your on a remarkable journey. I'am 62 and 3 mos out of RYS. A few bumpy roads. I learned VERY QUICKLY what I can and cannot eat. The pouch will play tricks on you - respect your amounts and pace. Dumping is no fun. It will be a delicate process for 2mos and just when you think you got the diet and amounts down -WHAM you pay.
My surgern said no gym work for 2 mos. I felt like jump starting the process and he showed me pics of those who didnt follow his orders. He has been doing this for 22 yrs. and has introduced serveral techniques to the professsion. I respect him.Keep on the post. we can help

The first few weeks are real boring...You'll be climbing the walls. After that is gets real interesting real fast. You're losing weight so you can move better...which in turn causes you to lose more weight...which causes you to move better. After awhile the mental side of WLS will become harder to deal with than the physical side. You'll get more respect in society (no it's not fair...but it happens). Beautiful women will make eye contact and say "hello". You'll need to be grounded and wrap your mind around this stuff, or it will throw you off the deep end. Hang on for the ride!!
Remember the Four Mantras of Life Post WLS:
1. Sip, sip, sip. Need to get you fluids in.
2. Walk, walk, walk. Exercise and prevent clots.
3. Any problems - CALL YOUR DOCTOR!! 'nuff said.
4. Except in the Locker room - never, and I mean NEVER trust a fart! You may experience a "laundry emergency"!
Strap in and hang on!

Attaboy, Mark. Welcome to the losers' bench. Just get through the first month and everything will be fine. Obey your surg and nut to the letter!. Sip, walk, rest, repeat. Call the doc if you have anything at all that concerns you. Ask the men on this board anything. They will administer advice and butt kickings as needed.
I am also 45 and have fought obesity since my teens. Good luck my friend!

I would have to say, it is not a hard road. I am under 4 months post op and I am down 91 lbs and 6 pants sizes. Can do so many things I could not do before.
I also had my Open RNY on Monday and went back to work on the following Monday. I was on lite duty, but figured I was just as well off at work than watching TV and sleeping all day.
It will be fun.
