Increasing Appetite Alarming
Hey Guys,
I am 7 Months out from Roux NY and feel great.
My question is about my increased appetite. In the past couple of weeks I seem to be having more and more moments where I am seeking out food because I feel hungry. Whereas only a couple of weeks ago I was content with just a few small meals now this feels more and more like I did pre-surgery.
I am a little concerned because I don't want to fall into old habits.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

I think that is common. First try drinking some water or milk, if that doesn't satisfy you get some dense protien in your pouch. You will have to experiment with your meal timing until you get yourself ballanced. I personally eat 6 or 7 small meals per day.
Your body will reset itself quite a few times in the next 3 years, and every time it does you will have to tweak your meal planning a little bit. It's all about keeping your body happy by balancing water, protien, fiber and carb intake so your body and bowels keep working. When they all work right you can stay busy and hopefully keep the old bad habits at bey.
Take some notes when you have that hungry feeling and compare it to your food diary, that may help nail down what you need. With all that info, your NUT will also be able to do her job better. If you don't keep a diary, start one. We all have to keep track of what goes in.

After about 6 months I stopped having to force my food down (I think my pouch had streached). The funny thing is after that I didn't feel hungry (no hunger pains). What I felt was that "not full feeling". In some ways it was worse than the hunger pains (where your stomach is screaming at you...like when you're on a diet). I still struggle with that area. Pre WLS we loved that full feeling...it gave us a peace & contentment we couldn't find elsewhere. The best ways for me to fill it now are with things like vegetables, protein, small amounts of good fruit (apple or orange), and water. Good luck on that one. Brian
It happens. When I was about 3 or 4 months out, I was on here whining about being hungry all the time, and people were telling me, "It's just head hunger. You're not really hungry. It's impossible to feel hunger pains at your stage." And I was thinking, "Bull****" I'm almost 15 months out now and can't eat as much as I used to, but can eat enough to gain weight pretty steadily if I'm not careful. Right now I'm working real hard on eating what I "know I need" and walking away from it even though it's less than what I want. One burrito instead of two. One sandwich instead of two. Crystal Light instead of juice or milk. The old eating out of boredom demon is back in full force too. I would say to you that it's never to early to work on self disciplilne. The surgery does the tough work early on, but it won't hold the horses forever.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
This is very true and I used to struggle with this. What I've done is eat 6 small meals a day...about 300 cal at a time. I work out a whole lot and this has helped me control my hunger. My diet consist of egg whites, chicken, cottage cheese, ,oats, fiber one cereal, spinach, muscle milk protein drinks, tuna, veggies, apples, etc. I try to eat foods that are going to sit in for a while....Try eating small meals often and that should help....it's help me out a whole lot.
Good luck!
