Freedom from the compulsion to eat
I got up at 4:00am this morning and realized that I don't have to eat just because I'm awake. For the past 30+ years this has not been the case. Getting up to go to the bathroom meant I had to have a small portion of ice cream or a few pretzels or cookies or something else to eat. Aside from being a grazer, I was a nighttime eater.
Since getting the Beck's Diet Solution, I have learned techniques that resolve my eating compulsions. I know that I am sounding like a broken record when I repeatedly mention this book, but it is having the same affect on me at 4 years post op that WLS originally had. And, I know most of you wanted to shout the praises of WLS from the mountaintops when you found out how much it helped you.
If you are following the guidelines set forth by your surgeon and his/her team, then this book would probably not help you since you are already using the techniques that it teaches. However, if you've become sloppy in your post-op eating or, worse, if you've gone back to many of your pre-op ways of eating, then this book will certainly help.

I'm not the Beck's guru or anything like that, but I've found what works for me and can make some suggestions to help you. For example, the author says to wait 2 weeks before starting a diet but we really don't have that option since we must stay on a post op diet. But, during the first 2 weels of lessons you can learn many techniques and especially learn not to be hard on yourself when you make a mistake while eating. Beck's will teach you how to follow your post op food plan. Wow!
I just wish I had known about this book several years ago. It would have relieved so much guilt about my eating. If anyone ever posts here about slipping from their proper post-op eating plan, don't offer him a butt whooping. He already is feeling guilty about what he is doing and is looking for a constructive solution. Beck's offers that solution.
