How long are you?

 Thought that would get you.

I mean, how long is your RNY bypass? Mine is 150 cm and I started with a 42 BMI. What I have been reading on the web is that folks under BMI 50 normally get 100 cm bypassed and above and those 50 BMI and above get 120-140. One place I read that is here:

http://www.thinnertimesforum.com/general-gastric-bypass-disc ussions/14102-distal-vs-proxmital-lap-rny.html

I'm a self-payer (the only way it's done in Japan), so no insurance co regs involved and my doc did an adventurous 150 cm for my 42 BMI.

Most important part of the question:

Do you feel like you could not exercise and eat just about anything and not gain weight? This seems to be what's happened to me, based on 2-3 day stretches where I've slipped up and eaten badly and too much while laying on the sofa watching old Conan, Letterman and Leno shows I've downloaded.

So what's your length and starting BMI? And do you feel this affects your ability to lose,  gain or maintain in any way?

Best Wishes,

Dave

For some reason,  I like being associated with the term "Long Limb." (140 cm + RNY's).

I kind of remember the number 150 also, but I had my original RNY on 11-14-2000 and I often have trouble remembering what I did a week ago.  I had my revision on 01-21-2005.  My BMI on 11-14-2000 was in the mid 80's.  I think I'm down to the mid 50's now.  I just realized that my BMI will be getting smaller as I get older now that I'm clean and working my program.

I read more articles after that. Supposedly the initial  weight loss for long limb is faster, but after that it doesn't make much difference. Of course, that's on average. Everything can cause differences for indviduals. Maybe I should check the lightweights forum (never have) since I was only 260 at surgery. That may make more of a difference than limb length.

Best Wishes,

Dave

I believe I also had about 150 cm bypassed and I started out with a BMI of about 44.

My starting BMI was 53 if I remember right. I dont' feel like trying to locate the page with the calculator on it right at the moment to check for sure. I've never asked how much I was bypassed. I guess I ought to.

In answer to your second question: NO. I gained 9 lbs from Jan 1 to Feb 23 even though I was exercising pretty regularly. I kinda developed a 4 package of granola bars per day snacking habit and was washing it down with quite a bit of SF hot chocolate mix. Which even though it's SF still has plenty of lactose carbs. I'm having to give that **** up.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
