Exercise and being over tiered??

I don't get it. I am tiered a lot of the time. When I notice it most is in the morning after I have exercised. I started exercising maybe 4-6 weeks ago and was good for a while. Nothing noticeable. But now I am all but falling asleep on my way to work. One morning I did and hit an other car thankfully only minor damage and the guy waved me off. Scared the crap out of me though. Noticed the same thing the next day and pulled over and fell asleep for about 45 minutes.

I get up at 4:00 and at the gym by 4:15 having had a few gulps of a protein drink. I exercise for an hour or so and go home and am driving to work at 6 for about an hour. while I am finishing that protein drink.

Am I not eating enough before exercising or what is making me so damn tiered? I used to get an extra boost because I had exercised and be more awake and charged. I don't get it.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hey Mctready, are you getting plenty of sleep at night?  I get up around 4:00 or 5:00 every morning too, but I also go to bed early at night.  Also, even though you're drinking your protein in the mornings, are you sure you're getting your daily amount of protein in?  Are you taking all the supplements you're supposed to?  If you are doing all these things, then I would recommend going to get bloodwork done with your surgeon and see if there are levels that aren't completely right.  I felt like this and felt depressed until they found my B-12 deficiency and I began taking an injection every week instead of every month.

I hope you find the cause.  Good luck to ya!!!

Do you have sleep apnea?  If so, are you still using your C-pap machine.  I know that when I had RNY I felt so good post-op that I stopped using the C-pap.  Part of the reason was that I had stopped snoring and mistakenly thought I had recovered from the apnea.  Besides, I was sleeping while in a recliner and felt I was better.  I had to go to the pulmonologist at the sleep clinic this week and was ordered back on the C-Pap machine.

Still use my CPAP at full bore as I can not adjust. And I am sure I am getting all my protein.

I know food makes me sleepy and carbs are worst, but just about any solid food makes me sleepy now. My remedy is rather radical: caffeine and anaerobic exercise. That's the only thing that makes me feel alive.

You should be eating simple carbs (fruit, milk, kashi cerial) before your workout and the protien drink after.  You need the carbs to help burn fat and protien during your workout, and the protien after to repair the damage to your muscles.  Without the carbs you are doing extra damage to your muscle tissue and your body has a hard time repairing, which is draining you of energy for the rest of the day.

This is from my NUT.  I have posted this many times, but no one pays attention because we are programed to eat protien first to make sure we get enough.  I think that the men post RNY get their protien in because we like it. and women are the ones that are protein deficient.  Since mostly women have the procedure everything is geared to their needs.

I have the EXACT same problem as you. What you need to do (and this is going to suck) is really pull back a little on your workout regimen. Mostly, the cardio.

Monitor your heart rate throughout your workout and keep it in the "Fat Burn" section. I know it goes against what everything tells you when you're trying to lose weight but for us, this is what we have to do to be "normal" after working out.

For me, I found out that my heart isn't as strong as it used to be. Blame it on the drastic weight loss, the massive diet change or whatever but it is what it is. Right now I'm just keeping things within a mild-moderate range. I also don't run as much and mostly do more resistance training with sufficient breaks in-between. It has helped a lot!

Do you notice you don't sweat as much as the next guy?

Strange you mention the sweating, I do not sweat near as much as I could pre-op.  I work out much harder then I ever did before and I really strive to get my heart rate into the 130 to 140 range.  I was looking at a couple of guys who were working out and were drenched with sweat just about a month ago and thinking that I did not sweat like they did and I did not think I was in any better shape than they looked.

Does anyone know if there is something to this observation.

Thanks guys. You have given me a lot of different ideas. I will try them and see what happens.

Ya Brian, I do not sweat like the guys around me but I do not feel like I am pushing myself to hard either. I will watch the heart rate.

Have you talked to your Doc about this?  Couldn't;t help but wonder if you an anemic.  Would hurt to speak with your Doc, get blood work done and see if they are any deficiencies that could cause the tiredness.

If you figure out the cause, let us know, you have me curious.
