Salad

Hey Guys,

Do you eat salad?  I like salad and make it often for dinner, but I find that I can eat a fair amount.  I always put a protein of some sort on it like shrimp or scallops.  Is it a food that slides?  Or is there so much water in it that it compacts easily.

This weekends salad dinner, does this sound like too much
Arugula and Iceburg about 1 and 1/2 cups
Grapes (5)
Blue Cheese (Tablespoon)
Roasted Asparagus (4)
Chipolini Onions Roasted (2)
Scallops (4)
1/2 of a new potato Roasted

That sounds like a bit much to me to be quite honest, but I guess it is all in how you tolerate it. If it were me, I would probably go without the carbs in the potato and be sure and use a light or fat free salad dressing; but, that's just me...

It sounds like an awesome salad though.

I eat a lot less salad than you.  I usually have 1 cup of iceberg lettuce with 4 oz of protein.  I use Walden Farms SF/FF salad dressings that I get from www.netrition.com .  My wife has seen some of them in the grocery stores on rare occasions.  Please note that most Lite salad dressing are just low in fat but not in sugar.

I don't understand the question about the food compacting.  It's been my understanding that the primary reason for not drinking with food in the early stages post-op is that the stomach is so small that it can only hold your meager meal or the fluid.  Later on, there's a possibility that the fluids would flush out your systeim whereby you would still get most of the calories without the slow traveling bulk.  You'd be hungry too soon after eating and thus be more likely to overeat to make up for what you are not eating.  Logic would dictate that meals that are basically wet shouldn't be a problem since many eary post-ops go on a liquid to puree stage.  They end up having soups, stews, and even chili and all of those meals have higher fluid contents than your salad.

Believe me...I can eat a whole bunch of salad. I really do think that if you chew it well it breaks down into water and perhaps more fits in our pouches?  I can probably have what you described.

Thanks, Gus,

I thought it was just me.  I also really never feel full full after a meal.  I really have no appetite at all.  I know that lettuce, mushrooms, non starch veggies are most of partially water so I will just continue to chew.  i must be doing something right I am almost under 300 and that's since December. Good Luck to you,
