I will be having that Vert Sleeve soon.  I know I will get a time line list of what i should be eating form the NUT but she has never had this done, nor has anyone on the staff and the hospital ect...

So from all the pro's what should i have stocked in my house to eat for atleast 30 days after.  What protein powder tastes the best.

I am a damn good cook so i will not be eating canned food.

I am leaving MD in the hour and heading back to FL. Should have somthing to read when i log back in, haha.....  gonna be a long drive and i am late as i like to leave at 4am..

have a good day eveyone

Hey Unidos.....

I would enough stuff on hand to make anything soft (refried beans, mashed potatoes, pudding, etc.). Be creative. One of the things I liked during my soft food/puree phase consisted of racotta cheese, marinara sauce, and parmasian cheese. I would mix all that together and it was a very nice easy taste of Italian.... I know, you're thinking that you could come up with something better than that and you're probably right. For me, it was awesome.

For things that you want to eat that don't have a lot of protein in it, you can sprinkle some Beneprotein over it. I don't know where to buy it though. I always get it from my surgeon's office. Some people can't stand it, because it does tend to change the texture of your food to an extent; however, it really is tasteless. It's not a bad deal.

As far as right after surgery, what people never tell you is that you need to be sure you have one of those showerheads that you can hold in your hand. If the Vertical Sleeve is anything like the RNY, I remember it being difficult to reach my back, because everything seemed to be very very tight around my stomach area. The handheld showerhead completely saved me. Most people have one already, but I didn't at the time.

You may want to be sure you get plenty of gauze and tape from the hospital. Mine was laproscopic, but I still had some of those tiny incisions that just wouldn't stop running and bleeding, so they had to be covered. I didn't get enough of the gauze from the hospital, so I had to go get more. YOu may want to be sure they send enough home with you or have some on hand just in case.

All in all, my recovery was a breeze. I didn't have any real issues at all. I do remember some lower abdominal pain when I started using my muscles more, but that's because I didn't listen to the doctor when he said not to lift over 10 pounds. I was picking up my 2 year old. I was a single, divorced dad and I didn't feel like I had a choice at the time. All was well though. It was only muscles.

I hope this helps. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Have a good one!

I would feel hesitant to advise you since I have not had the same procedure. It really is a shame that they do not have nutritional support for you during this.  Here is what I can remember...

egg beaters, mozzerella cheese to melt into omlet just make it more milky the first few days, milk, chili (I made it with meat, salsa, beans, and pureed it the first couple weeks) unjury protein is good you can google it,  don't get the protein chicken broth though, that stuff is disgusting, crstal lite or something similar,  cottage cheese, fruit to blend into your morning smoothie protein drinks,  sugar free fudgesicles ( you can add powedered milk to regular milk to make it extra full of protein, in fact you can do this to make extra protein rich milk) , blue bunny lite no sugar added yogurt, sugar free popsicles,   i was eating sushi grade tuna, uncooked, very soft, canned fruit no sugar added, soups, just be careful with rice, noodles, heavy meats until you can tolerate them, peanut butter (no sugar added) blended into your chocolate or other flavor protein drinks, i found myself liking spicey things to snack on that have few calories like salsa,  soft sushi ginger (although watch the sugar content),   sooft or fluids would be the key I think for the first few weeks.

Hope that helps,

This is the document that the doctors gave us.  We also had a 14 week 1 day a week class and several group sessions prior to the surgery process.

This book is tailored to RnY and LapBand, but it has some good ideas for food choices and exercise etc.

Hope some of it is usefull.
