No doubt Jay. I should find out what interest rate they are charging and then multiply it time four, because of the extra pain in the butt.

I'm not a lawyer I prepare taxes for a living. Did they take the whole thing from you and not just your half> i would recommend you get an EA to help you fight the tax thing. Just because the IRS changes a return does not make them right.

Although many people do not like the company I work for, we have thousands of Enrrolled Agents who are very well versed in tax law,

As for the ex you need to check the decree also. Take the personal out of the equation with her. Treat her like you would treat anyone else that would owe you money. Would you take 20 dollars from a stranger. I would just sue her for it in small claims court.

Just because she told you what SHE wants to do doesn't mena you have to abide by it.

Snicklefritz, The IRS originally sent out a letter about 3 or 4 months ago, letting us know that they found an error on the return and they gave us a certain amount of time to reply to the letter with a reason as to why we did what we did on the return. I looked at the specific lines that was in question and I read up on them and completely agree with the error. It was a mistake on our part...no wonder I got so much back that year. haha.

They aren't only taking my half of the amount we owe, they are taking all of it. Because we filed married filing jointly, they said regardless as to whether or not we are divorced, we are both responsible for all of it. They said however we work it out between us is up to us.

Now all this is what the IRS has told me on the phone. I haven't received my tax return, so there's a chance that the rep I talked to didn't know what she was talking about and I will get my whole return and all this fuss is about nothing; however, the debt has to be paid somehow and it's going to be a battle that I'm willing to fight for fairness. I divorced her, which means I'm not longer looking for a wholesome relationship with her. I don't care if she's mad about something with me or whether she thinks I'm being mean. Those days are over.

Wives suck those 2 words in same sentence? lol
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and you'll have their shoes.
