Cycling is fun
OK so maybe "fun" is a slight exaggeration, but as far as excercise is concerned it is the most enjoyable. I don't own a stree bike I ride on a stationary bike (magnetic resistance) and either watch tv or listen to music to pass the time.
I usually ride for 30 mins and do a workout routine. Saturday I decided to go for speed and distance and to ride for an hour. I set the resistance to 3 (it ranges from 1 to 10) and started riding - keeping my speed at or above 15 MPH. I rode for an hour and 15.25 miles. It was a great feeling. Yesterday I did the same thing but due to soreness rode for 30 mins but increased the speed to 16 MPH.
The limiting factor for me on the bike is my BUTT! I can take the sore muscles (the soreness works out pretty quick) the monotony of a stationary bike is no prob when I am watching TV with the wife. The real problem is the the seat hurts so friggin bad. Anyone here figured out a way to deal with that issue? I feel I could ride for a couple hours and increase my workout over time but sitting on that seat for another minutes would drive me insane.
Hoping someone has an answer

When you get a chance borrow someones street bike and take it for a spin. It is wild. Scary and exciting all at the same time. But most of all fun. Especially now that you have some exercising under your belt. I still feel like a kid when I get on. You remember the 'look mom no hands' feeling? That is it.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
I don't have a response to your question, but I wanted to mention that I know that several companies make videos where it looks like you are riding in various parts of the country. I know I gave my Dad some that similated rides in New England as well as rides among the Hawaiian islands. You may want to look into that to add some interest.
Yes I want to get out and ride in the open. Time and money are limiting factors. I have to have time with the wife alone especially with 7 kiddos. That is why I opted for the stationary bike. I will be getting a street bike soon though. I plan on racing this October in theTour de Scottsdale, it is a 70 mile race that circumvents the McDowell Mountains

Cool beans, keep up the riding.
I second, third, 4th the getting of a Gel seat cover for the stationary bike.
My road bike had a ball buster of a seat on it. I looks funny, but I went out and bought a cruiser seat and put it on my bike. Yeah it's big and clunky, but it fits my fat ass and the important thing is that you keep riding. The guy at the bike store agreed, He said you will build up saddle time and your butt will get used to the feeling, then you can switch back to a regular seat.
