Will you be able to get an adequate work out without an instructor leading you?  I would think for the money you might want to get a stationary bike with training programs built in.  For that amount of money you could also get a decent road bike.  However if you go that route they have videos you can buy that are like being in a spin class.  I know personally I like spinning but need an instructor or class to push me to get my heart rate up.

J,

One FL is all flat. I'd have to drive an hour to see a real hill or make a few passes over one of the bridges leading to the beach.. Two we are moving into the easy bake months. Biking outside during the day is out of the question and at night you might be eaten by our new state bird the mosquito.

I am in the process of having the VSG. If i buy a bike now it will have to be the Kona Clydesdale as it is for larger riders. 1000.00 new.

I would get the DVDs. Dont need someone to push me yet.. With my temper I might be in jail if I take a class..lol

from the looks of your avatar I would not want to be your trainer

I have trained on this spin bike before and they are great.

I actually carry that in my truck sometimes..  (Quick story) I been working as a bouncer for the last 12 years as a part time job. So one night 7 guys blocked my truck when I was trying to leave.  I always park far away from the bar as not to get broken windows and slashed tires. They were drunk college kids but when I pulled that .44 out you talk about getting sober quick. Sorry sir and we're stupid was all I heard.  lol

some may argure they were unarmed but I was out numbered and in FL that is reason enough to draw on someone.  We have the shoot now ask questions later law aka Dirty Harry bill.

Not sure what your weight is? I really don't think you have to drop that kind of cash on a kona hoss. I started riding a giant yukon at 430 pounds. I bought the bike for 450 a few years ago. I rode the bike until I started popping spokes, Had a 36 spoke rear wheel built on a double wall wheel. Parts and labor was about  a hundred bucks. Found a rigid fork and seat post on craigslist for 70 bucks for both,

So I still use the bike today with no problems. I'm down to 380 now.  I just put a 2009 GT peace 29er on lay-away today. Seven hundy and the bike rides like a dream with my 380 on it. I'm sure I will have to at least upgrade the rear wheel once I start popping spokes.

Many cheaper options out there if you really want a road or mountain bike. Plus you can get a trainer and ride indoors if the weather is to bad.

Not sure about the spinning gear. I've never done it. I am sure I would need a personal trainer to stay motivated with something like that.

I am 6'3 430.  I dont want popping spokes to be an option. I'm tall so alot of bikes are not comfy

I had a trek once that had a long head tube and was perfect for my height. If you were under 6' you could not ride it.  I gave it to someone to hold till I came to get it but somehow he decided to ride it at 5'7 and ****** up the bike beyond repair.
