Sleep
I had my surgery (RNY) on 3-24-09 and still cannot lay down in a bed. Sleeping in a recliner. Layed down in bed last night and thought I was going to rip something apart when I had to get up two hours later.
Any suggestions on how I can get up without killing myself? Or do I need to just chill and wait for the healing process to work?

I bought me a brand new recliner and retired the old one just before surgery, in part because the little woman was sick of the old one and what I had read here about just what you are going through. I slept in mine for about two weeks before I was able to handle sleeping in bed. When I did go back to bed I slept on my side and rolled out of bed instead of trying to sit up. Give it time, it will get better.

I slept flat in bed my first night at home. If the problem is getting out of bed try this. Take your pillow and hold it firmly against you abdomen, roll on to your side on the edge of the bed, let your legs move off the bed (so they can swing to the floor) and use your arm that is furtherst from the mattress to push up. This will move your entire body in one motion and the pillow will support your incisions resulting in less pain.
It should be much better very soon, especially if your surgery was laproscopic.
Good luck
