Calorie intake for weight maintenance

Gentlemen,
I'm 11 months + out from RNY.  Have been flat on weight loss for the last two months.  Surgeon says since I didn't have a lot to lose, this may be it for me at 90 + pounds.  I'm ok with that and very grateful for the results.  Three questions please:

How many calories per day must one eat in order to not gain?
What has been your experience on weight gain after one year out?
If you did gain any, were you able to identify the reason?

Many thanks,
Ron

I've done this q/a for some time.  Different amts for each.  I'am on a daily plate cal, protein, carb and sodium count.  Plus a hard exercise routine 5-6 days wk.  I am going to give this 60 days as I am 4 mos out .  1060 cals daily plus bonus cal for cals burned at the gym. Getting healthy and eating right are my main goals
I found that all the advise/info from Docs, Nuts, forums, googles can not beat your own plan.  You know basically what works. You know when to make adjustments and are in control.

I'm 3 years out and let me tell you....I have to work at it soooo hard to not gain too much weight....My lowest was 188lbs and today I'm around 202lbs.

I eat about 1800-2000 cal a day, I workout 6 times a week, and follow my diet about 98% of the time.  If you begin your new habits soon, you'll probably be successfull on a long term basis.  My surgeon says that from one's lowest weight, it's normal to gain some back because the body is adjusting to the new you.   So, my advice to you is to start early and develop new habits..I make strong efforts to hit the gym and it's just  part of the deal we got into that we have to adapt to regardless if I like it or not.

Good luck in your journey...It's not easy.

You will be struggling with this forever.  Finding a ballancing point with just the right amout of protein, fiber and calories is a constant battle, and it changes for me every few months.  I weigh myself every day and have set a 10# range that I am happy with.  When I get to the top of the range I think about everything I put in my mouth, when I get to the bottom of the range I add a meal so I don't lose any more weight.  I have gained or lost up to 5# a day because of water though.

You need to be vigilant and realize that food in minus calories burned should be close to 0.  1800 calories a day would probably be great but their are so many variable, and then the firber problems that we all have.

Good luck, sorry there isn't an easy answer.

...to add to what everyone else said, it's more than just calories...protein, fiber, carbs and fats are all just as important....

It also depends on your height....someone 5' tall is going to need to eat far less than someone of my size (6'6")....personally I eat 2000-2500 calories a day and have been holding steady at goal for  almost 6 months...though I lose a few when I'm active or on the lower end of 2k calories for a few days straight....

It's very important to get your nutrition from the right foods though....

Obviously, 500 calories from a Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddle isn't quite the same nutritionally as 500 calories from a 1/2 cup of Oatmeal mixed with protein powder and peanut butter plus a banana, which is a typical breakfast for me.

I'm a month out and am able to get enough protein with between 500-800 cal a day.  I am up to jogging 3 miles a day, 40 min of a workout video, and 20 min on my total gym
