supplement x-post

So are there any supplements out there that really work?

So who here is taking a supplement.  I have been considering Kona Endurance
http://www.dbmnutrition.com/

But I have a few questions:
I'm wondering if we would absorb this, or if we would just be producing expensive urine.
You know similar to b-12 needing to be injected or taken sublingually to get proper absorption.

Did you really see any improvement after taking a supplement regime?

Does it help with your recovery or the energy you have during your workouts?

Do you take it daily or only on workout days?

Thanks

Scott

I do what the Doc says.  Double dose multi Vit, iron, Vit D, Cal Citrate.  Something about RNY inability to absorb food vits.  Been blogging and googling this and get mixed opinions.
Advise Advise.  These can get expensive

Do exactly what your Doc and Nut tell you to do.  They are the experts and they are the ones that will have to sort out your lab work every 3 months.  If you are adding things that they didn't tell you too they can't correctly diagnose any problems you may have.

You payed them for their expertice to get you through this, now let them do their job.  You have the rest of your life to tweak what you put in your body, at least give your doc's staff the next year.

If you had RNY, B-12 will absorb in the regular vitamin form.  The absorbtion problems were pre-RNY when the bottom of the stommach wasn't re-attached to the small intestine. (needs stommach acid for absobtion.

Good luck, but please let your professionals do their job.

I'm not asking about standard vitamin supplementation here guys.  My request for info pertains to exercise and workouts, not daily vitamin regimes.

I am asking about LEGAL performance enhancing supplements that are use by athletes to improve their exercise performance.  Specifically endurance athletes.  Like the product that I linked in the original post.

And according to my doctor you do not absorb b-12 correctly any longer after the RnY surgery, they mandate it be taken sublingually or via injection.

I could be wrong, but what I'm seeing in research is that vitamins only work if you're not getting them from food (eg anyone who has a bypass). Isolated substances rarely if ever, give results. I haven't looked into what is in the endurance supplements, but would be surprised if works as well as caffeine tabs.

You can google each of the contents as a performance supplement. Generally, most don't provide results, especially for endurance. There are a couple that may provide a temporary kick, like caffeine, niacine, taurine basically stuff that's in Red Bull type drinks. Also NAD and on an empty stomach tyrosine and glutamine (multiple grams thereof).

Best endurance supplement seems to be long slow distance activity in your sport for several hours several days a week followed by long slow cross training in another sport. If it's a marathon you're doing, take a 5-6 hour bike ride. When my even was an 8 hour triathlon about one week before I would set out on rollerblades for a 40-50 mile (8 hour) rollerblade skate, never sitting down or stopping except to pee. Talk about something that works the core muscles that keep you upright!
