Just got a call from the Doc's Office
This liquid diet was going o****il I hit the wall. I lost 18lbs but I stopped losing and gained 2 back. The hospital wants to be a center of excellence and wants me to be at 399 to have surg.
I told them had i known this I would have gone some place else. They say well we go to committee meeting on April 29Th so keep drinking the shakes and we will see if they will do the surg on you at 418..
So the dietian then says well if you like you can replace the dinner shake with a palm sized piece of protein and some veggies if you feel you can stay on this. (*****)
I don't want to make eating an option. I have Sonic Taddr totts on the brain...
So if they say ok, then I go in May 8Th. If not I will be on the news cause I took the .44 with me..

You are not the 1st one to go through this. My surgery was scheduled for 5/24/04 (and that was 7 months after I was ok'd by insurance) and I was put off because I didn't lose enough weight. Had surgery 8/3/04, thats over two months later. You know what? 5 years later it doesn't matter. Keep calm and do as they say, it all works out in the end, and a couple of months doesn't make a difference in the long run. For the surgeon those couple of pounds may make a world of difference in how difficult the surgery is.
Robert
I was self pay as well and was 431 at the time of my operation. Fortunately for me, i had zero hassles and when I commited to the surgery was scheduled to go in 3 weeks. (BTW, where i had my surgery is a Bariatric Center of Excellence).
Where are we going?? And why am I in this handbasket??
right now. somewhere. somebody is working harder than you.

Man I can relate. I went for my pre-op work up on Monday. It all went well in the morning. They really have it down so it goes smooth. In the afternoon you meet with a General Practitioner to ask a very detailed history and to go over some of the tests. All was going well until he looked at my EKG/ECG. He said that I have an abnormal Q wave which means that I may have had a heart attack at some time. Said that I should see a Cardiologist and have a stress test done. I told him that the same abnormality show up twice on my EKG's last year and I went under anesthesia three times last year with no problems. He would not budge. I was freaking out. I didn't and do not want my surgery postponed or delayed in any way.
When the next morning came I faxed him my prior EKG's. I waited all day very anxiously for his call.He said that there was no change on this EKG compared to the ones from last year. He felt good signing off saying that I can go ahead with my surgery and that I would not have to see a Cardiologist.
I had already made an appointment with a Cardiologist for today (Wednesday) so I kept the appointment as they worked me into their already booked schedule. The Cardiologist said that the new EKG looks better than the ones from last year. He said to be on the safe side he would order a stress echo anyway. If all goes well he will send a letter to my Surgeon stating that I'm fit for surgery. He did say that he believes I will have no problem passing the test but still here I am full of anxiety again not fully knowing if my surgery will be on the 22nd (Wednesday) or not.
Psychologically I'm set for that date. My coworkers are adjusting their work schedules so I can have that block of days off. The not knowing is killing me!!!!
I know they are looking out for my best interest. I know that they are really good at what they do. I know all of the reasons and science behind it but it's still really got me on edge.
I wish you the best of luck. I know you'll get to have your surgery. Just hang in there....look how far you've already come.

Thank you, I guess it happens to all of us in some form or other.
I had a message on my phone. Now I need a release from my Doc for the surg.. Well I don't go to the docs unless I am near death on something or the pain is so bad I can't handle it. I have a very High tolerance for pain
I just ate a chicken breast I have not felt so good in 15 days of shakes..

I hope the hospital didnt put it like that.. The reason they want you to loose the weight is a safety issue.. The surgeon needs room to get in there and do his thing safely. If thats the way they're putting it their wrong on many levels.
Hang in there.. We have all been there.. You too can make it through..
