How did you set your weight loss goal?

The doctor said about 80 percent of my excess body weight.  I used the BMI calculator to determine my target weight.

I am now at 184-187.  80 percent of my excess weight was down to 187, so I reached that goal.

I reached that within 6 months of surgery and it seems that I have really slowed down - I haven't lost anything for 2 weeks, which is good.

Scott, that's awesome.  I know you've got to be feeling better.

Just got back from my pre-op with the surgeon.  He said for me, at 5'8", an "A" grade would be 165, a BMI of 25.  That BMI must be his benchmark.  A "B" grade would be 175-180, and a "C" grade would be 200ish.  Of course, he sees me as an "A" student!  :-)

Guess I better change my ticker below...

When I went to see the doc the first time, I weighed 456. I hadn't weighed under 300 in over 10 years, and hadn't weighed under 240 in 20 years. I had no idea what was possible. Because I didn't have a clue as to what I ought to weigh, rather than set a weight goal, I set a pant size goal. My initial stated goal was to get back into some 36 Wranglers. That's what I wore in HS. I'm close to 17 months out and have been stuckin 40's for about 6 months. But I'm here to tell you that being stuck in 40's feels damned good, after being in 56's a mere year and half ago. I'll get into those 36's one of these days. I guess I need to go ahead and buy them and claim it.

36's was my skinniest in highschool.  I'm somewhere in the 52/54 range right now and 36's are what I have in my minds eye.  When I did wear 36's my weight was usually under215lbs.  That was at age 17-19.  Now that I'm 44 years old I don't know what to shoot for.  In 2004 I got down to 300lbs and was in a size 46/48.  It will be nice to be able to buy jeans in a regular store again.

I've bought a couple of pair of pants since I got down, simply because they were $80 dress slacks on sale for $12, but that's about it. I'm wearing all my stuff from the mid to late 80's right now. It had been in boxes up in the atti****il I got it down last spring and summer.  Luckily men's stuff stays in style for the most part. Except for those polyester Sansabelt slacks.

I'm gonna have to buy a new belt or two before to long. Those belts from the '80s have dried up and cracked so bad that they're coming apart after a couple of month's usage. I went and looked a couple of weekends ago, and the belts I like run about $65. Holy ****you can almost buy a tire for your pickup with that kind of money. I may have to Jethro Bodine it with a piece of rope.

Duane,

My Dr. never really gave me a specific weight to attain. I'm 6' 2'' and I know the "Charts" say I should be 185. I don't know if that will ever happen at 56 years old. But if I were to look back and say what weight I would like to weigh, I'd have to say the weight I was when I got married at 21, which was 220. If I could get to that weight again I would be happy. If I got lower that's ok too but I think I might start to look sickly if i got much lower. I think you should strive for a weight that you would feel good at and be happy with. good luck
