I'm 3 years out and I'm trying to stick to about 1800 calories a day...BOY that's hard!!!

I exercise 6 times a week and perhaps that's the reason why it's hard and I'm feeling hungry?

How many calories are you guys eating?  I'm sure it'll vary from person to person depending on your surgery date....

I'm taking in between 1300 and 1500 calories a day typically in the low 1400's.  I am almost 6 months out and work out religiously 5 days a week for around 2 hours a day.  I was stalling at 4 months until i bumped up my calories to 1200 from 900 and have slowly increased to where i am today via trial and error.  The lbs began to drop again after my tweaks and i'm now around 160-170 lbs gone (started @ 431).
Where are we going??  And why am I in this handbasket??

right now.  somewhere.  somebody is working harder than you.

Gus, thats a guy by guy thing.  I exercise 2 hrs daily 5-6 times a week and watch my daily plate to see where I'am at.  My calorie intake is 1035 to lose 3 lbs weekly.  If I get a bonus of 1200 cals from workouts I am usually 400 cals per day below daily plate goal.  Doc said I lost the right amount last weigh in (4/20/09) and put on 2.5 lbs good  weight. Its the balance of fat u lose and muscle u gain thats keeps it off over the years.  Doc says a rapid loss tends to be a rapid gain
Good luck

I'm 17 mos out and have quit charting or counting them. My weight has held pretty steady at 255 or so for 6 months. The only thing I know that I can attribute it to is that I do walk about 18 - 20 miles per week. The toughest thing for me right now is to refrain from eating when I'm not hungry. That old habit of eating out of boredom or eating just because I like the way something tastes is really trying to make a comeback. It's kicking my ass more than I'm kicking its ass right now.

PS: If I had to guess, I'd say I'm getting about 2700 - 3000 per day.

I'm 4 years out, weigh over 360 and I'm trying to lose weight.  I'm having between 1,600 and 1,800 cal per day and losing weight.  Some weeks I lose a pound and some weeks I lose a bit more.  I'm quite inactive and have bad knees.  I cannot use a pool because of problems with my skin.  I've tried going down to 1,400 to 1,600 cal but that just doesn't work.  I'm hungry most of the day if I try that.

I'm about 13 months out.  Exercise 5-6 days a week.  Usually 1-2 hours.  Daily burn rate is between 1000-1200 calories.  My average intake is 1600-1800.  I try to keep my net calories at around 700- 800.  If I go to far below that, I stall out.  Its hard managing intake vs. exercise and not going into a deficit mode.  I have all this energy and could easily burn more than I take in but then my body kicks me in the butt and the weight loss slows to a crawl.  I've tried upping my calories to compesate but that leads to a road I don't want to go down.  I can easily consume 500-1000 more calories a day by eating junk.  The carb and fat junk intake then makes me feel ravenous and that I cant and will not deal with.  Scares the crap out of me.  So I load up on healthy lean protein and keep my carbs around 125g a day and am learning to manage my exercise levels.  I've notice that if I manage my carbs to around 125g, I never feel hungry.  If I go over that number to much (150+), BAM, the hunger beast is unleashed.  My biggest issue is with sodium.  Its nearly impossible to not consume 4000+ grams or more a day unless you eat all organic fresh food.  Can't afford that so I compensate by drinking a ton of water, at least 12+ glasses a day.

Today I exercised like a mad man and I'm really trying to stay focused.  I have not gained much but I know from hearing others that the weight CAN creap up!  Ughhhh....The further you're out you are, it becomes so very challenging....I never thought that till recently.

Yesterday I ate 2000 calories and it would be considered a not so good day for me, food choice wise. I was not home and made poor food choices (Spicy Jack Quesadilla from Del Taco and a bag of Peanut M&Ms for dinner/snack).

I am in the gym 4 times/week and usually workout a good solid 45 minutes each time. I am pushing hard the whole time and by the time I'm done I am drained!

I have actually gotten down to 198 this week which is my all-time lowest weight since the late 90's. I'm wearing a 34/35 in jeans and feeling great. I have a somewhat muscular build now (not heavy muscle but showing some definition here and there) so I think I tend to be heavier than I look. Could stand to lose another 10 pounds or so of fat in a perfect world (all on my thighs/hips and lower belly).

I know you say it's hard at 3 years out but I think you still are doing great! I just went to a seminar yesterday at the hospital I had surgery at and according to their stats, you would be well beyond their best estimates would be for someone in your situation.

Are you trying to lose more weight, firm your muscles or what? You could be overtraining yourself. I know when I hit stalls I avoid the gym for a week or two and then when I get back in I drop at least another few pounds right away.

I am 4 years out of vgb and never did really lose any weight until this year.  I had a staple line break and damn near didn't come home.  Anyway, in December I started Nutri-systems and lost about 25 ponds.  I got so exited about that my next move was to increase work outs to twice a day time 30 minutes minimum with the idea that raising my metabolic rate would be contimuous over a 24 hour period is I did exercise every twelve hours.

I am now down 90 pound as of this morning.  I have cut out what I consider non-essential parts of the Nutri-systems plan and am getting about 700 calories a day and now find myself four year out losing weight like a fresh post-op person.   I'm getting plenty of protien.

I feel great, no dizziness, hunger is more managable than ever.  What a weird world this is...

I am at 300.2 pounds as of this morning...

Tomorrow morning I expect to break 300 for the first time in fifteen years.

Thanks for the feedback....My lowest was 188lbs and today I'm at 205 lbs.  I'm trying so hard to lose at least 10 lbs but it's darn hard!  I've cut out a lot of fat and eating lots of lean protein and protein shakes.  Ughhhh...We'll see what the scale says on Friday!
