I have not loss any weight in three or more weeks. Been gaining and lossing the same 5 lbs. What can I do to turn this around.

I rode my bicycle today for the first time, Five miles round trip. Enjoyed that, want to start riding more.

Looks like the honeymoon is over...now the real work begins.  I'm going to ask what everyone would ask...How are you doing with sweets, carbs (breads & cakes), fried foods.  If good or OK then I would say you might need to change up your routine.  For me hard physical work would cause the weight to drop off like crazy.  Any projects around the house or car??  Good luck, Brian.

1. Sweets. What is that? I don't eat them, EXCEPT. We found some ice cream that is no sugar added made with Splenda. This is only an ocassional sweet treat.
2. No bread or cake, I do have an ocassional wrap
3. no fried food at all
4. physical work! I am allergic to that. Well last saturday I was up on in the yard by 7:30am, worked with tractor swapping out plow, disc and working neighbors garden, cut grass (just riding) but 10 acres, hauled off trash, pretty much no stop all day until it got dark. Same for this weekend.

I try to stick to low fat, no sugar meals. breakfast is a bowl of cherios with spenda and low fat milk, lunch varies from wraps, salads, not really what i call diet food, but no fried stuff, no sweets, do bread. dinner also varies, but folling the same as above.

The personal trainer my Dr had come in and talk at a support group meeting said this would happen if we did not change up the workout routine. She explained that it is best to make some changes to how you work out and exerise at least every 3 months.

Good luck!

I see we had surgery the same day.

Everyone is different and one thing I have learned is that my body doesn't follow simple math.  I can count calories in and calories out and my body says "screw you I am gonna do what I want!"

I had a stall that was like yours and lasted 2 weeks - this week I broke the stall and lost 6 lbs.  When I hit a stall I wait about a week and see what happens.  After that I change things up - add more protein, drink more water, increase or decrease activity, change the intensity of a workout, etc.  Not very scientific or exact but I have never had a stall last more that 2 weeks.

I would say the honeymoon is over. You will want to increase activity levels or the weight loss will come to a halt.  Since increasing my activity my weightloss for the last 2 months has been greater. How did I get the 6 lbs off?  I eat 100 to 120 grams of protein.  My calorie intake is 1200 to 1600.  My water intake is about a gallon a day.  And I rode my stationary bike over 90 miles this week.

Tomorrow is the 6month mark for us.  I was 402 the day of surgery - today I was 267 - hoping to drop another pound before tomorrow morning's weigh in.

I agree with Dan, honeymoon is over tool in place now the lifestyle change needs to be worked.
I'am keeping to docs plan lost fat gained muscle.  No scales in my house - get  weighed monthly at docs office.  Just following the routine - stepping up gym time and weekend physical activity.
jean sizes coming down - thats my gauge
Doc well prepared me for the leveling and regain.  He even said 40-55% WLS'ers may regain 20-45% of their lost weight
Its now my choices

I hit a stall around 4 months as well. I was creeping into sweets and carbs again. So I cut that out, and have been steadily increasing my activity. I seem to lose a pound every other week or so now. It's the real deal now - so don't give up!

Someone else hit the nail directly on the head.  You must change up your routine every couple of weeks.  Your body has muscle memory and with that you will get in a rut, thus not lose any weight - even if you biked 10 miles a day.  Even the best conditioned athletes will tell you that.  You need to do cycles of different training methods.  Just biking won't cut it unless you are doing a mix of bike sprints + casual riding = going back and forth.  I now run 4-5 miles a day (except Sunday) and lift weights for an hour each day - I am the poster child for working out, but unless I change my routine, the weight stays stationary - now I won't put weight on, but I also won't lose.  Depending on where you are at, for some people, that might be okay.  You seem like you want to lose more so you indeed need to change your workouts - if you run - do full blown sprints and then do walking - mix it up.  If you lift weights - do high reps/low weights and then next time do the opposite - heavier weight/low reps.  If yard work is your exercise - go full bore for 5-10 minute spurts and then slow down and then do it again for different timed spurts off and on.  You get my point.  In doing this, your body won't get bored or in a routine.  You are far enough out that the occasional body stall is not your issue - people who are fresh postops say three or four weeks go through this, but your situation is entirely different.  I have found that if you keep your body in a state of shock and it doesn't know what's coming - you will continue to lose weight.

Good luck, TAZ

This Plateau Busters Diet appeared on the Main Forum on 04-02-09.  The woman who posted it said it always got her out of plateaus.  It sounds a lot like what Dan wrote.

How to break a plateau

#1 Do this for 10 days to break a plateau

# 2 Drink at least 2 quarts of water a day

#3 You must have 45g or protein supplemeent and all your vitamins/minerals supplements each day

#4 You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods X 5 times a day:
beef,  pork,  chicken,  turkey,  lamb,  fish,  eggs,  low fat cheese,  cottage cheese,  plain yogurt or artificially sweetened yogurt, peanut butter, beans/legumes.

#5 You may also have sugar free popcicles

OOPS!  That's where my computer gave out.  I'm not really sure what #4 means--like does it mean 45 grams of protein shakes or bars in addition to the 3 oz of protein  X 5 times per day?  I'd have to look up in my book to see how many g of total protein that comes to.

I know that I can't follow this way of eating.  I get constipated on our regular high protein low carb diet and this diet is just too constricting for me.  I need some vegetables, grains, and fruit.

By the way, I found that having 2 slices of low cal whole wheat bread per day keeps me fairly regular.
