FEELING?
Guys as i approach the date of my surgery in July, i get the question marks flying thru my head thinking Am I doing the right thing? Am i ready for this? Why? i know i need to do this as i quit breathing at night due to the apnea and i take the machine mask off during night due to cant stand it-my choles is out of control and BP is creeping up and the heart is one of th sticklers in my family both sides. I then tell self-i want to get healthy/i want to live and i know i can do it. Does everyone get these feelings closer to the date? 27 days and counting.
Yep, lot of the same feelings I had right up to the surgery. I had type II diabeties, high blood preasure, high cholesteral, and used VPAP. I quit the diabeties meds about 3 wks after surgery, the high blood preasure meds 4 weeks out, and the cholesteral med last week.
I quit the VPAP machine about 3 weeks ago after about 55 lb loss. I don't snore and I don't wake up gasping for breath any more. Also -- for the first time in many years I can sleep on my stomach!
You have to decide, but for it me RNY was the right decission. I was scared right up to the operating room but I faked it and went on with it.
Oh,also I have less foot, knee, and back pain.
I do miss the summer cook outs already though, but worth giving up considering what I've gained.

having the RNY too, and i have read re read and re read. I know im doing the right thing. I had been told this was going to happen right up to day of surgery. I just know i will be much better off health wise on the things creeping into my health horizon. thanks for reply I liked the faking it as basically i have masked too
Once you get to the other side of surgery, you will really know how good of a decision you made.
I went off my metformin (for metabolic syndrome, not really diabetes) during the two week liquid diet BEFORE my surgery. I'm only on one BP med, but that is also a med that regulates another minor heart issue (PVCs). I'm waiting for the day I can pack the CPAP away, although I'm compliant in using it.
Here's one possibility to help: as you run across positive stories or good responses that reinforce your decision, print them out. When you get the question marks, start reading your file. You'll soon move from the question marks to the exclamation points!
You may see some fireworks on the Fourth of July, but the real celebration for you will be on the Fifth of July.

Would that every surgery went picture perfect. Sometimes it's the surgery, sometimes it's the patient thinking it's not a problem to cheat the system like we did when we were dieting, dieting, dieting.
It has to be right for you, and I believe that if you're committed to making the tool of surgery work for you, it will - even if the bariatric team has to do some tune-ups after the procedure.
Keep asking us about specifics. There's probably someone in the group who has been there, done that.

Well it's not easy but worth it . I am healthier than i have been since high school. It is normal to have second thoughts but just think of the final results. I was on 200 units of insulin a day as well as 2 diferent pills . Im off the pills now and use 15 units insulin a day. I have dropped 2 of my blood pressure meds and hope to be off another any day. It even has cleared my skin and Im not alergic to cut grass anymore.
Ohh And i can see my toes
