Gallbladder is going AWAY!!!
So, I went to see my surgeon this past Wednesday (7/22) and he is wasting no time. My gallbladder comes out 7/30/2009 at 7am. Although my PCP doc is with a different healthcare system he agrees that I should stick with my bariatric surgeon as he has already been in there once. He just did a EGD to rule out a gastric fistual and said it was either to small to see or non-exsistant and he also was not impressed with the CT that showed it.
My question to everyone is, what should I expect Thursday? I know that the surgeon has scheduled it at the Carolinas Medical Center MAIN OR and not the one day surgery center as he said he doesn't like the tools they have (CMC-Main is also the level 1 trauma center in Charlotte for those who aren't from the area). So what should I expect from the time I go in until the time I am released? I know that he said I'm usually in recovery about 4-5 hours give or take. What about pain afterwards? I took a week off work but I also work 3rd shift security so i do a lot of walking (flash light cop basically...haha) and not a lot of heavy lifting unless you count cones and such....Any information would be greatly appreciated...I am not really nervous but just curious...=)

Wish I could help. My surgeon took my gallbladder as part of my open RNY so it all happened at the same time, which is why I went that route. I wanted it that way. But I imagine if he is doing it laproscopically and doesn't run into any complications, you have planned well.
First day after is the painful one till they get the meds regulated to suit your metabolism. Then the transistion from IV to oral meds to something that works. But even then, in a couple of days, I can't imigine your needing anything unless its open instead of lap. The you got an encision and a whole different set of cir****tances, but that is old technique I doubt he planning on using unlesss you requested it for some reason.
Best of luck and good call on getting that sucker out of there. It needs t come out post-op so often I don't know why it isn't part of the initial WLS operation for all of them that aren't lap-band (that doesn't have long-term digestive alterations and malabsorption of bypass).

Hey, I had a dull but constant pain in the upper right side (Kinda left of the arm pit) and it felt like it was the classic under the ribs feeling. It would be worse after eating something. Luckily I've never (yet) had the classic ATTACK where you are on the floor in the fetal position. I do get really bad stomach pains after eating and depending on what it is it may be joined by a sharper pain the right to middle side but still barrable. They did an ultrasound when I went into the ER per my docs orders b/c of severe abdominal pain to find that there were 2 stones just chillin in there. Its gotten worse as the ultrasound was back in May but they were small enough that the CT did not show it.
What kind of pains are you having?
