Acid Reflux / Heartburn?

Hey everyone...

I am an acid reflux sufferer; have been for years.  Just about anything will set it off and I've been on meds to combat it. 

Anyone found out, as an added benefit, that their RNY surgery helped this?

FYI - Pre op is next Wednesday, RNY in 3 weeks!!!!

Dont know what meds you're on, but my doc gave me prevacid 30mg daily.  No reflux or heartburn 10 mos out

I had it bad prior to surgery. I took Prevacid every day. Since surgery I have no symptoms.

At about two years out my surgeon did a scope and found an irritation in my pouch. He put me on Prevacid Solutab. It is a form of Prevacid that you put on your tongue and let dissolve. He did another in a couple of months and said every thing was fine. From what I understand he does a scope on all his patients at 2 years. He kept me on the Prevacid but told me I could take it every other day as a preventative measure. By taking it every other day I will make a years supply last for 2.

I took Protonix for years for GERD. After RNY its completely gone.

I had GERD prior to surgery ... it is now resolved.

A lot of those issues are cause by a Hyatial (sp) hernia.  Did the find anything like this during the pre-op tests?  If so, a lot of time they repair that during the surgery, and then you are good to go.   Check with the surgeon.  Good luck.

Hey Jay, I occasionally had heartburn before surgery...nothing major but since RNY I havent had it one time. I can eat anything spicy and no probs at all. Hope it helps you too. Good luck.
