Kind of discouraged

DX is the most knowledgeable person in the world concerning WLS.  He doesn't come on here much anymore...He is just so busy.  DX, if you read this, I hope I get it all right...Don't get a big head or I'll twist your bowel or something!!  DX is a college professor in MS.  He also designs sets for professional plays around the world.  About 6 years ago he had RNY...there were complications with his surgery.  He ended up in the hospital for 6 months.  During this time he read anything and everything he could get his hands on concerning WLS.  He also has a very inquisitive mind...so he does a ton of reseach,  He also was one of the key people in establishing this site.  DX has somewhat of a falling out with OH a year or two ago...so he chooses to be on other sites.  Also with work, he has been seeing himself spread out very thin.  He was a great help to me and to others on this site and as you can see from this post he "really knows his stuff"...even more than most physicians.
I have often thought he should make available, in CD form, his post concerning WLS.  He has a wealth of information.  Well enough said.  Brian

Ditto on all the above.  Stash the scales. You will go up and down a little in fact I have gained 2-3 lbs at 10 mos out due to muscle mass.  May want to set your goals at pant sizes and get a web belt.  Alot of weight is in legs and arms.  This is hard to measure. You will get down to your Doc's goal.  Just follow the plan.  It wont be long b4 you'll be seeing those long forgotton veins in your arms, neck and legs.
Good luck

The other problem with the scale is it puts us in a sort of competition with other WLS folks, which is really not helpful for everyone.

I hit a weight loss stall at 3 weeks that lasted 3 weeks.  It bugged the heck out of me but I kept on going.  My body was still rearranging itself.  Once I was able to exercise, the weight loss started again.  In fact, I've only lost 9 pounds in the last 4 weeks but my body looks and feels very different.

Agree with previous poster re: inches/measurements.  I would go with neck, chest, waist at a minimum, and probably bicep/thigh too.  Hips wouldn't be a bad idea either (to capture the butt fat, doncha know).

Once you start eating real food, exercising, the other people in your life become accustomed to your new life, and the newness of it all wears away, you will be more calm about it.  We didn't gain the weight overnight and we aren't going to lose it overnight either.  This is especially true of the second half of excess body weight -- the first half is easier.

We've all got addiction problems or we wouldn't be in this boat. And scales are an addiction. I found that the only way I could avoid a scale addiction is to pick a time once a week to get on the scale and stick to it. Two years later and I'm still on that routine. And I don't even think about the scale until Friday morning when I get up. Which reminds me........I forgot that today was Friday and I didn't weigh this morning. Oh well........there's always next Friday.
The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking....... If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog.
