Did anyone take their laptop to Blodgett and use it while there? Did you even feel like "surfing'? Do they have wireless???? Also--how much walking did you do while there?  Did you meet others and chat?  How many nights were you in? Thanks,

Laura

They do have Wifi. Did not feel like surfing. All I felt like was sleeping and walking. Dozed on and off with PCA meds. I stayed only one night and was up walking within a few hours I think. I walked about every 2 hrs and sat in chair intermittently. Foley catheter was out by midnight that night so I was up to the ladies room frequently with IV fluids and all. Ice chips overnight. Carnation instant breakfast in the am. Home by 2 pm the next day (just under 24 hrs).   I met a few folks while I was in. Can't remember names (drugs erased the specifics). You pass in the halls while walking. Hope this helps. Cathi

Laura,

It goes pretty much like Cathi said, you may not feel like surfing because you will be in and out from the pain meds. When I had my gallbladder taken out at Blodgett, I was not able to surf. They probably have that on the Bariatric floor though. I was up 5 hours after surgery walking. I passsed a couple of people in the hall, but I was too fuzzy from the meds to remember anyone. I was in 1 night and left around 7:30 the next evening.

                                                                 Good Luck to you, Phyllis

I didn't even think about taking my lap top because I didn't want to worry about where it was. Walk every chance you get.  You will feel so much better.  I was up 3 hours after surgery and walked every hour after.  The more you walk, the faster you feel better. I was the weird one that is not affected at all by drugs.  I was totally coherent and could tell you the names of people I visited with in the hospital halls.  I was out in less than 24 hours after surgery.  Don't let them push you if you aren't up to it though.  I was definately ready to be in my own home. Good luck, Laura! Jenn

Dr. Foote said that for the VSG he keeps his people in the hospital for three days two nights and if everything is ok then released.  They do the leak test the day after the surgery.

I think you might be in longer than 1 night with the VSG. I am having the DS, and Dr. Kemmeter said 2 nights minimum for that.. I would think VSG would be more similar to that than to RNY. I was hospitalized at Blodgett for an infection late last year, and they do have WiFi. Not sure how secure the network is tho, so surfing for fun and nothing serious like personal information entered anywhere is what I did.  I asked my husband to take my laptop home with him at night.. since I was sleeping part of the time and really in no condition to stop anyone if they wanted to take it anyway, I didn't want it there without someone else there with me. Unfortunately, you have to be a little paranoid about things if you want to keep your items safe. Also, if you are taken out of your room for xrays or other things.. you never know for how long or who has access while you are gone.  I am looking forward to getting my surgery scheduled soon.. I can't wait! Good luck to you.
