Anybody going to be doing any of the events for the Detroit Freepress Marathon?  I'm looking forward to doing my first marathon (though I expect to be fairly slow).  If anyone else from the board is planning on being there it'd be great to put a real face to the screen name!
They do have a 1/2 marathon on 5K fun run/fitness walk going on too.

I have some friends trying to talk me into it.  Not sure if I'll do it or not though - it's just 2 weeks after the half marathon I'm doing on October 5th... but I might consider the 5K in Detroit.   I'm planning to do the 1/2 marathon in Rochester -- The Brooksie Way.  You should do that one too!

This will be my first 1/2 marathon... I'm a walker ... it's still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that I'm going from morbidly obese and needing WLS to a half marathon in less than a year.

I really should probably be doing a 1/2 marathon, but like you I find it hard to believe that I'm going from being morbidly obese to riding my bike in centuries and doing marathons in just over a year.  That's my motivation for doing the whole marathon.   We'll see how I feel after this weekend, it's my first attempted 14 mile run.  Even though I haven't put the miles in legs with running I've done lots of endurance things this summer -- routine 40-50 mile bike rides so I'm hoping (man I'm hoping!!)
Looking forward to it -- NOT looking forward to the day after, lol

Practice, what's that???  Yeah, right now it's pretty much school and fitness.  Trying to get the miles in my legs.  Looks like I'm probably going to be doing a bike century on the 4th with the marathon on the 19th.  If I'm not at school I'm out running like a fool:)  It'll be nice when marching band and this marathon bit is done.  Like to get back to a 'normal' amount of exercise.
You know pre-op the thought of me being 'in training' never came to mind, lol.  Funny what a year can bring!
