Hi Bev,

The 2 week diet wasn't terrible.  Dr. Foote's office is great about helping you pick out the food.  I suggest the prepared meals.  The spaghetti and meatballs were a favorite of mine.  The stew and chicken parmesan weren't bad.  They were similar to a Lean Cuisine.  I also favored the berry smoothie, peanut butter protein bars, and the cappucinos.  The soups - not so much.  I have had the chicken broth with noodles and the tomato soups on the post-op diet.  Try to get a variety.  You will be purchasing your post-op supplements next week.  Post-op is all liquid, including some of the soups and gelatin.

I had my VSG with Dr. Foote on 2/10/09.  Please feel free to ask me anything.   I would love to hlep out a fellow patien of Dr. Foote .   Good luck at your appointment tomorrow.  It will be long, so be prepared to be there awhile.

Kerri..thanks for writing...I am sitting here at 5:30 Monday morning....getting very nervous about finally getting my dream to come true...but your letter did make me feel better...Now I am looking forward for my trip to GHP today..I have to be there at 8:30..just knowing you survicec the  diet ..helps...all I can think about is my coffee in the morning...LOL...Thanks for the information on the meals.....I did get a sample package but only had a few things...shame on me..so what you said will help....Please keep me informed how you are doing OK...
Did you stay in a hotel the night before your surgery?? If so where?...my surgery is at 7:30 and I live about 1:15 away....Also why did you to the DS....I thought about doing that one but Dr Foote talked me out of it..then I said I wish I could do the Sleeve..but Medicare will not cover it..so now I am back to the RNY...
I just know I want to stop hurting while I walk...and learn to love to be alive again......Take Care

We decided to not stay in a hotel the night before due to responsibilities that night.  My daughter had swim class and my husband had fire training.  So, we left early for the hospital.....3:30 am.  We arrived at Blodgett early, but I'm glad we did.  They must have several surgeries scheduled for the first of the day.  Mine was at 7:30 and they wanted me there at 5:30 am.  It worked out fine, considering how excited/nervous I was.  Feel free to ask questions about surgery day, hospital, nurses, etc..

I actually have the vertical sleeve gastroectomy, not the Duodenol Switch.  My original thought was for the RNY.  After doing some research, talking with some patients in the waiting room at MMPC, and talking with Dr. Foote, I decided to go with the vertical sleeve.  I have what they consider a lower BMI, which I believe is a BMI close to 40.  Mine was 42.  It is now about 38 : )

I have arthritis in my feet and suffer  from migraine headaches.  I take Aleve for both.  I would not be able to do that with RNY.  Dr. Foote felt the VSG would be best for me.

By the way, my left knee no longer hurts when I walk and do stairs!  A great little victory!

Take care,
Kerri

Sounds like Dr Foots 2 week diet isn't anything like the 2 week LIQUID diet that alot of other people do.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

Congrats, Bev!!!

I'm still playing the waiting game, but at least my paperwork has finally been submitted to the insurance company.

Kerri - I agree that that's good to know about the pre-op diet.  I was figuring on liquids too.

Or is that only for low BMI patients?
