well, my surgeon is over an hour away from me, so I answered a post about creating a group.  Nothing ever came of it.  So, I just wing it....which can stink sometimes.  But with the proper pre surgery habits, post surgery isn't that hard.  Just the sticktoitness is hard!

I don't have Medicaid but I am aware of someone that had Medicaid that did get approved for WLS.  I'm not sure how it works or if it is a case by case decision.  Have you checked out this topic?

Same thing here.  I'm currently in the Ann Arbor area.  Although there are some local support groups nearby the only ones I am aware of you had to be a WLS patient at their facility.  I've noticed a lot of facilities do that though.  Maybe they think people will try to get newbies to go see their surgeon instead?  lol

I am so thankful for OH

I'm in White Lake (Commerce, Milford, Walled Lake area). No groups out by me. Neither Henry Ford in West Bloomfield or Huron Valley in Commerce have any support groups. I've NEVER had support except OH.

You would think they'd be everywhere.

Topic: RE: Any support groups in Grand Rapids or No. Kent Co.?

GHP in Grand Rapids offers a couple of different support groups (they are open to everyone)...

As the others have mentioned, the peer support group (for all surgery types) is held every Monday at GHP from 5 - 6 pm

The topic related support & info is at GHP on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month from 5:30 - 6:30 pm

***They also have a list of all of the support groups in outlying areas with info on thier website***

http://www.grandhealthpartners.com/default/patient-resources /tools-for-you

(Scroll down the page and you will see links to adobe (PDF) documents listing both the ones held at GHP and the ones that are not)

There is also a Duodenal Switch support group at GHP on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 6:00 - 7:30 pm

I hope that you can find one from this list that will work for you and your schedule :)

Yes, I'm going August 1st!! And if you're going to be there....I will look for you! August 1st is also my VSG consult. That will be the day of "deciding"!!! I'll have talked to Dr. K about both the LapBand and the VSG. I'm 80% for the VSG....hopefully the consult will send me over to 110%!!

Kevin Sloan the psy who ran last night's Wed support group. He brought it up that we should go. Bariatric or not...it's going to have a lot of good info and people who have lost their weight and kept it off are going to be the speakers. I will Private Email you my work address and we can easily make sure we are going!

Karen Duty will help you....she's very busy so stay on top of her...or call in a day or so if she hasn't called you back! You are absolutely right about "everything happens for a reason". We all want this to happen quickly but we must be patient. The weight has been on for awhile and it can wait a little longer until all the stars come together!!

Thats awesome that you are still staying involved and going to the weight loss program until your surgery!  That shows great determination...I admire that!

Yesterday I got some potentially bad news....well not necessarily bad news, just a set-back.  Apparently my BC/BS (PPO) does not cover physician assistants, which was whom my initial medical evaluation was going to be through on August 9th.  Apparently she's covered under their normal BC policy not the PPO part.  Which honestly does NOT make any sense to me!  But when I called over to BWCC to reschedule to a medical physician for the medical evaluation, the lady said she would have Karen Duty call me today to see what she could do with my insurance company.  So we'll see I guess.  If BC/BS is going to be such sticklers, the medical physicians are booked up until probably the firs part of September.     But I guess, whatever will be, will be and I have to remember what they say....everything happens for a reason.

That "Lifestyle Change Lecture Series" on August 1st sounds pretty good.  Are you going to that?  Perhaps we could meet up then!
