I just had to look at your profile. I love looking at pictures. Before and after, kids, dogs and kitties just about anything about you. Well I see you have some big dogs. Me too Hahahaha. We have a 6 lb tea cup Poodle and a 3 lb one. I think your dogs could put my little one in its mouth and no one would see it. But she would bark loud enough that he would spit her out to shut her up.

I am glad to see you home and doing well. Take good care of yourself now and don't overdo. Keep getting better. Hope you continue to recovery with no problems.
My surgery is in 10 days, but who's counting.

Topic: RE: Hair Loss
I have lost hair after every baby and serious illness. It comes back. There is a lot of advise around about getting your protein in as soon as possible and taking Biotin. there might be one other nutrient. Someone might can fill us in a little more. when your body is really stressed it shuts down some things. One is nail and hair growth. So, the hair folicles that are in active growth at that time stop. It takes about 3 months for that to fall out. Then it comes in and you will see it when you have all this short hair sticking up among all the longer hair. My hair is straight as a stick and fine as silk (yuk, I can't do much with it and clips and barrets just fall right out) So, when it comes back in I can see all these little hairs sticking straight up above the rest of my hair. You will generally lose no more than 1/3rd of your hair. I really don't care if I go bald, as long as I lose the weight.
I know the hair will come back. Diana

Topic: Here I go!
Here I am! I am doing my 4 days of liquid.
Today is my second day. Yesterday wasn't too bad. The only thing was last night all I could think about was putting bread in my broth. LOL "Crazy"! I have been a lil scared. I had bad dreams about my surgery last night, but that's another story. It is kind of hard to believe in just 3 days to will be done.
Then, I guess, is when it gets tuff. Well I need to go, lots to DRINK! ~~Mindy~~

Topic: RE: Hair Loss
I started losing hair at 2 and a half months out, now I have very thick hair and naturally curly so I didnt worry to much about it. BUT when it starts happening, the amount that comes out in your hands like when your shampooing or brushing is alarming, its truly kind of scary looking to me anyway. So far you cant tell it when you look at me but it is scary. What worries me more is the condition of my hair, i dont use any new products on it or anything but it just looks like a big dead fuzzy sheeps butt on top of my head and I cant get it to style or anything anymore. Ive thought about cutting it off short but im afraid with the hair loss that would be more noticeable. I just dont know what to do. I have always been faithful with my protien to. I believe its a natural process we all go through at varying degrees with this surgery, but it sucks!!

Im on another WLS group on yahoo and they said that protein, protein, protein, they said to always try to get in at least 30g of protein per day so the hairloss wont be as bad, I lose a lot of hair already also because of hypothyroidism so i worry about the hairloss thing also, I used to have really thick hair now I dont

Topic: RE: Protein Shakes
I went to Sam's and bought a huge bag of EAS Vanilla Protein shake. I mix it with frozen berries every morning. With all the frothiness I can only drink half of it but it's not bad. I've had my fair share of icky moments. Even went off the shakes for a month. I like this one though as long as I mix it with ANYTHING LOL. Sorry haven't been around in a while but I went to work then had to quit. Been trying to get a handle on my blood pressure and now that it's under control seems my blood sugars are starting to go down.
Topic: RE: Hair Loss
I have not had the surgery yet; but like you I am freaked out by the idea of loosing alot of hair. I have hypothyrodism and I loose alot of hair anyway. I found a myspace link for Big Medicine...it's the tv show that comes on TLC about two doctors that perform gastric bypasses.(They are father and son) I wrote Garth about the hair loss question and I have copied the answer he emailed me. Maybe it will be some help to you.
The hair loss is not major and always comes back. Proteina and flax seed oil help.
Take care,
Garth

Surgery was on Tuesday. I came home yesterday and I am feeling great. Have had very little pain except for the drain sight. That will be gone next week if all goes well, looking forward to that. I hope everyone is doing well and I want to wish Mindy good luck next week on her surgery!
