Great big hugs and smooches for all of you!
Part of my problem stems from the fact that I'm a nurse and was trying not to be a wimp. I got a shot of seconal(I think) Wednesday AM before I left in the hospital. My 13 year old son asked "What are you going to do when that wears off?" I said "Oh well, it's working now."
My doc sends liquid tylenol home with patients but tylenol never helps me so I never use it. I did try it there but no effect at all. So I should have answered DS's question and asked the doctor for something to take home but I truly thought "Aw.....I'll be OK." Not so, as you knnow.
After calling Lisa I called an OH friend of mine who had her surgery at the same place. She has worked with others having their surgery in Mexicali. She phoned my clinic's coordinator and they reached my doc who would have sent his driver to the airport with meds for me but the driver wouldn't have reached me in time. Doc said to go ahead and take the ibuprofin. I have read on other lap band web sites that it's OK to use if no history of ulcers. Anyway.....I was hardly worrying about an ulcer in the airport. I chewed up 600 mg of ibuprofin (yuk yuk) and within 30 minutes was so much better. My departure was still 4 hours away but at least I wasn't suffering.
I started hurting again about 4 hours after that dose and was in the air at that time. All I could think about was getting home to my bed and my heating pad. I took 400 mg additional ibuprofin on the plane which took the edge off but the whole plane trip was a blur. Absolutely no turbulence though (must have been the prayers). One of the smoothest flights I've ever been on! Looking at the Minnesota snow and ice during the descent looked so so good to me. My pain honestly started to improve again just getting into my car to head home at midnight!
There were no moments I wished I didn't have the surgery but there was no love for my lap band during those times!
Today I had two doses of ibuprofin and that took care of the pain. I'm using a heating pad some too. The best thing is to be home. I am feeling more affection
toward my lap band. My favorite foods are broth, water, SF jello, SF popsicles.
Thanks again everyone! I just now read the responses to Lisa. She offerred to read them to me last night but I was just too uncomfortable to listen. She summarized what you all were saying and I got happy tears, even in the pain.
Debbie, I'm SO RELIEVED that you are home and on the mend! That was just too frightening to read, I was scared for you! It's a good thing you were okay'd to take the ibuprofen. I was wondering if the rules are different for RNYer's vs. Banders. I actually learned that it's okay for me to take some ibuprofen if the tylenol won't touch the pain, and sadly, that does happen with my knee once in a while. But I take liquigels.
So just rest, medicate, sip and walk, and keep us all updated!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful

Duh I just made the connection! YOUR Lisa's sister.... ok now that I have caught up... Im so happy your home and safe! Sheesh you were so brave to do that. I would have cried like a baby :(
Hugs and when you get to feeling better tell us of the experience going there and what it was like?
Thanks and welcome home!
