MHO on post-WLS LD's -- LONG.....

At the risk of involving myself in another 'debate' on the boards, I would just say that I think checking with your doctor first would be great advise. Your Doctor or Nutritionist should be able to help you make that decision.  I applaud anyone that takes matter into there own hands and does the LD for a short time to help 'jump start' a stall or to see if a few days will help take care of something that is becoming a problem. If the Dr says its ok and your healthy otherwise, I don't see that it is a big deal. Personally, I hated the LD and really don't wanna have to do it again, but when the pouch is irritated, I know this will help. I am not a Doctor and I don't know that any of us are, so asking for our programs recommendations would be good advise for newbies that are out here looking for answers.  CarolN

Barb, You got to express your opinion and now I get to express mine. I can't help but think that I'm one of the ones you're talking about having recently gone on an LD and quite frankly when someone posts something with such **** and vinegar I can't help but feel attacked.  I know I haven't been able to read every post so maybe there are people out there doing the LD to jump start their weight loss again - but I want to point out that that's not the only reason why people do the LD.  Just because I chose not to do the 5-day pouch test, doesn't mean I did the LD to lose weight.   Personally, I did the LD to gain back control over the EVIL CARB MONSTER.  I WAS breaking all the rules because I started down the path of trying out carbs and as most of us can atest, once you start it's quite difficult to stop.  I wish I would have NEVER started, but ya know I'm human and faliable. But I ADMITTED it and then decided to take action to change it - which in my case was going on the LD - which to me was the first step in this process and then after it I had to follow all the rules.  Quite frequently we refer to this surgery as being reborn again and that we're babies having to learn a whole new set of rules.  I'm not sure about you, but most babies I know get up take a few steps and then fall - OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.  Having to start over again and reverting back to basics is done over and over again until you can walk through this journey and not stumble after every other step.  THAT'S WHY I DID THE LD!  NOT TO LOSE WEIGHT! Barb, I'm happy that you have had such success with WLS and that you have been able to follow the rules to the tee; but that doesn't mean that those of us who haven't been perfect little soldiers aren't allowed to share our experiences - successes and failures here.  I'm sorry you're sick of hearing it.  Personally, I'm sick of seeing the posts about people needing to figure out how to fix their signature and post their picture - but I haven't put a rant out there faulting people for it - I simply choose not to read or respond to those posts. So yes, you've pissed me off and yes I'm responding with more **** and vinegar - but I guess you don't really care because "WTF you're in a fiesty mood"! OH - and by the way - there's nothing HUMBLE about your opinion here!

Go back and read my posts.  I don't see your name any where.....sorry you feel that way -- so much so that you feel you can personally attack me.  Would I personally tell you, who I thought was a beautiful friend having many issues and trying to deal with them, if I thought you shouldn't do something -- Yes.  Have I done this -- Yes.   Have I every said I followed the rules to a tee....No.  Have I followed the rules to a tee...No.  Did my post say I follow the rules to a tee.  No.  Was I personally attacking Tracy -- No.  Was I personally attacking anyone -- No.   Will anyone expect you to help them with their signature or picture post -- No.   Could I say hurtful things right back at you -- Yes.  Will I -- no.

Barb....a pretty little disclaimer at the beginning of your email doesn't mean that you weren't directing this towards certain people.  Quite frankly there's 2 people that have publicly posted on this board about doing an LD in the past week.  How can you seriously expect that neither of us would take it personally.  Who else were you talking about then?  By the way I don't see that you posted this on any other board but this one - so once again, there's a reason why Kelly and I feel attacked - whether that was your intention or not!   As for me personally attacking you - first of all - even you expected that there would be folks pissed off about your post. Secondly, I said nothing about YOU personally - I only directed it towards your opinion that you posted freely and publicly - I was serious when I said I was happy about your journey and how well you've followed the program - that wasn't being sarcastic AT ALL! Don't try playing victim now that you're getting refuted!

This post will be on the board's twice -- once for you , and once for Tracy.

Here is the first sentence/paragraph to my first post -- please read the bold and red parts....

"FIRST OFF -- THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR! AND NOT JUST ON THIS BOARD EITHER!!  But if the shoe fits, do you throw the shoe at the salesperson???  It is just my thoughts to help express my perception on LD's for those using them for weight loss.  To use them for a sore pouch from being ill, or for a reason outside of weight loss, is not what I'm talking about in this post.  But if you are doing it because you want to lose weight ......ARGGGGG!!!!  I'm pretty sure I'm gonn **** someone off, but I can't take it any more.  And with newbies and lurkers who use us for questions and opinions, it think it is important to say....."

I tried not to get nasty with my second post, but apparently you two just want to get nasty with someone and today must be my day --

So --
isn't the carb monster ouside of the weight loss reason?  Did you say in your posts for your liquid diet that you were doing it to lose weight?  No -- so why did you turn this into being about you?  You did it for the carb monster -- fine.  So then this post had nothing to do with you since you did not use it for weight loss.  But you two just decide it's all about you and purposefully lash at me.  I think I remember this happening last week with another post.  I would think that you two would have taken that into consideration.

My second post even mentioned that I wished the 5dpt's good luck but I don't support not addressing the issues that got them into the situation to begin with.

Talk about talking until you are blue in the face.

And Tracy -- have you ever know me not to tell you something straight up?  Have you ever known me not to tell anybody anything straight up?  Nope.....but I guess you decided today was the day I was going to ***** foot around and do it to you!!!  I even mentioned that it had nothing to do with the 5 day pouch and you brought that right back in.  I didn't give you reasons for why the 5dpt was okay and the LD wasn't.  I wasn't addressing you and your issues or questions.  I was addressing those who use the LD as a weight loss technique.  Everybody totally *****es abot the LD before and after surgery and then reverts to it when then want to purge?  What does that have to do with YOUR carb monster?

I don't want to mention names of folks who have used this JUST to lose weight -- the only reason they did it.  No carb monster. --just to lose weight.  They haven't reached their number!!  That's who this was suppose to be directed to -- hmmm wasn't that mentioned? Oh -- that would be the "pretty little disclaimer."  I surely wouldn't mention names because I'd be scolded again for not pm'ing them instead.

I never said anything about the past week so where did this come from -- oh, that was Kelly's post -- not mine.  I said the past 3 months.  While I'm sure you really want to turn this into a post about the two of you, I'm sorry to say that others have posted on this subject -- I think some were doing it as far back as New Year's so they would be at a certain weight for the first of the year.

I never said it was this board -- I never said I was posting to another board.  I said I was a lurker on other boards.  I've never posted to another board but I've lurked for months.  I see Connie D. on the over 50 board a lot.  Oops -- I got personal there!!!

Not directing your posts toward me....Well maybe they shouldn't start with "Barb,"  or have stuff like "But you know what Barb" or "you think you know it all".  Or perhaps Kelly shouldn't include you in her comments, and vice versa......Or is there another Barb you are addressing.  If so, sorry I assumed you were answering my post.

Holy crap -- I thought my grandson had an actively imagination....you two have totally rewritten the story.  Believe me -- I don't feel refuted or victimized.  Just glad I've seen the light with how you really feel about those of us who would express an opinion against something you are doing.  Guess how many honest answers you're getting from other in the future?

Everyone has a right to live thier life and express their opinon, so no one can be faulted for that. I can't help but noice how many time the word "you" was used. I think that is why it was so offensive to some of the readers. I think the finger in the throat comment was a bit out of bounds however.

Hey Hon!  Well said!  It just goes back to following the rules and being patient AND your body will go to where you are suppose to be!  I personally only wanted to get to 150 and went below.  I also, having my recent issues, have learned that IF YOU ARE one who is following the rules to a tee and are at a stall or not budging any further perhaps it would be time to look into OTHER reasons why you are not losing such as therapy, unlerlying medical reasons ect.  I too see it that the LD is only needed when pouchy is irritated.  I TOO IMO believe that if you need to get back in control of carbs from lacking in your food choice that the 5dpt is a tool just like the surgery BUT THAT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO USING YOUR TOOL PROPERLY.  Yes, we are all humans and slip but hey get back up pull up your big girl panties and get back in the saddle and own up to your own actions (which can be a bitter pill to swallow).   I TOO AM PASSIONATE about this subject and voicing my opinions has caused people to be pissed off but hey we all KNEW GOING INTO THIS THAT IT"S NOT A QUICK FIX BUT A LIFESTYLE CHANGE!!!   LOVE YA DEAR AND SUPPORT YA 100%

Why is the 5DPT a tool and not the LD???  Isn't it just a matter of preference?

Like Barb, this was just my opinion as I had stated and if it differs from your opinion that's alright we are all intitled to our opinions.  I too believe that IF you do a LD POST WLS that you should get the ok from your doctor, again just my opinion and perspective from all that I have learned and gathered in MY journey. And as I stated, if after following the rules to a tee and no WL after months then perhaps one should get therapy and or check into if there are any other medical reasons that prevent them from losing.  Sorry if you are offended by my opinion, I was not offended by yours. Hugs

Sandie, I'm not offended by your opinion - I'm trying to understand why the 5DPT is okay and an LD isn't.  To me they are both tools that we can use to "get back to basics" or any other reason (aside from trying to lose weight).  It doesn't make sense to me that one is "good" and the other is "bad" or why one would require an okay from a doctor and the other doesn't.
