MHO on post-WLS LD's -- LONG.....

Again, IMO the LD is for WL not for getting back on track.  There are people who do the 5dpt and have lost weight as a perk but not all lose weight from it but rather gain control and to get back on track.  AGAIN, just IMO, the LD flushes your system, can put you into ketosis, and was designed to do for pre surgery to shrink your liver.  AND as post ops we REALLY have to be FULLY aware of making sure that our bodies are getting all the protein and nutrients needed as we malabsorb AND from MY research and knowlegde *I* decided that the LD wouldn't be a good choice for me.  AND when I asked my program they advised me not to for my stated above reasons but that was THEIR advice to me.  So, that is why I believe the way I do.  You don't have to agree with me or do as I do.  Do what you feel is right for you, again all this was MY opinion that just so happened to be like minded with Barb's. Hugs

Sandie, THANK YOU!  That's a great explanation!  And as you probably know, I don't have a doctor that I can readily access for this type of information considering I had my surgery in Mexico, so learning from others research is beneficial to me.  I didn't do the LD to lose weight OR jump start my weight loss. I did it to get BACK ON TRACK because I wasn't following the rules - I thought the LD was a great way to do just that. - bringing me back to the basics  Knowing now what you shared helps me make an informed decision; unfortunately Barb's post provides none of this and does nothing to further inform others  - it only served to attack those of us that chose the LD to get back on track. (I don't expect you to respond to that - just needed to make my point.) Thank you for taking the time to help me understand.  And I'll make it known that I know you're not a doctor and I won't hold you liable for your opinion!

I have never tried a liquid diet other than the one I was required to do. I can see why people would want to do it and I can see why some might think it isn't such a good idea. I believe it is a good subject to be discussed.

Hey Hon!  I agree, a good discussion!  And it should also be a good discussion with your WL program and or surgeon.  I can see why people would want to do it too but as post ops we need to be careful it what we do. HUGS!

Good for you Barb...and thank you.. I almost fell into the LD trap.  I surely dont need it but wanted to try and grasp somthing that was more in my head than anything else. The bottom line is this works for everyone...IF you use it right.  I can guarentee anyone that does the LD will go back to bad habits...because its a head thing. If you choose to eat those things..then dont complain. I have so many times wanted to ... but havent.... I dont because I wont go back period.  Im no different than ANYONE in here... NO one loved breads scones candies cakes more than me. I just knew that it was over for me if I wanted to be healthy and thinner. So my darlin..good job for speaking your mind... thanks for spanking me.  Of course I could have been offended you bashed the LD.. but ya know what..you were right.  It wasnt the answer. With that said....  DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER EVERYONE.

Barb!

Bravo!  This is NOT contest.  The surgery was a tool much like a crutch for a broken leg.  Use the tool properly and do not expect wieght to continue to be lost like the first 3 months or so.  Things slow down and thank God!  One could not keep losing like at first.  You would just burn out.  Right now for me 4+ months out, I am doing brain adjusting to a loss every 7 days or so and am so happy.  I feel great and besides........who is in what race????  Aren't we loking at a life time adjustment???

take care...............sj

Surgery 1/2/'08 @ 227 lbs.......today, 143 and working towards 138.

This whole thread just bums me out.  The boards are changing so much since I signed up 2 years ago. I still love everyone though and respect everyone's opinions. (((Hugs))) Michelle

Michelle - I agree

in fact, I've had PM's recently with several people who agree...

it's sad....

with that said, there's no danger of me doing a LD - I love food too much LOL
