MHO on post-WLS LD's -- LONG.....
I have to be honest.... I find this whole post a little disturbing. People who should be supportive of each other are attacking each other.. be it directly or indirectly.
This board has many different people, with different issues, that have shared a common surgrey. Just because we share that experience, does not mean it's going to turn out the same way for all of us.
As far as the LD goes..... that is a personal choice. One that should be respected. Not attacked. If you are not in favor of it, fine, don't answer those posts. If you have experience with it and want to share it, great. Thats what this board is about. Support.
I also do not think it is right for one person to judge how another person chooses to deal with personal issues. We all go thru difficult times in our lives, and yes, some of those come after wls. How we deal with those difficult times is not going to change over night just because we had the surgrey. It takes time, and healing. I've seen it on this board many times, the surgrey fixes our stomaches, but not our brains. It is not easy to relearn ingrained behavior. I know I am up against 39 years of it. I also know with some of the tramatic events that I have had since just before my surgrey until now has made it EXTREMELY difficult at times to follow my program.
I recently went thru a phase of not eating due to stress. I had been at a platau for months... due to stress eating I will admit. However, When the stress went the other way, I wasn't eating hardly at all, and I dropped 15lbs. I am now the lowest I've been since I got married. Now I am watching way more carefully what I am eating, My weight loss has stabalized again, but I am looking to drop a few more yet. Do I feel that time of not eating helped me gain control? Yes, did it help put me back on track? Yes.
I see people going on the LD desperately trying to get back control. Ya, I am sure they wanted to lose a pound or two, but the main reason is to take back the control. I understand that. If it helps great. As long as they don't do it on a continuous basis.
It saddens me when I see these types of posts. having just recently getting back involved on these boards it somewhat makes me wonder if I made a good choice coming back? I have met many wonderful people and made some cool friends, at the same time, I see so much negativity. Yes there are some out there that are more successful then others, however, to judge why one is more so, and others less so is not our place. That is between each of us and our doctors.
Well I'm sure I probably torked off a couple people with this, but thats my opinion.
Hope you all have a good night.

Hi Barb
I couldn't agree with you more about what you said, BUT i'm not sure as to what you are refering to? Are you talking about all the people that are doing the 5 day pouch test? I am hoping that you are not but if you are here is a bit of information about this procedure. The first two days are solid liquid and then after that you go on protien rich foods. I am on this for one reason and one reason only and that is to get back on track from my over use of slider foods that seem to make a difference. I for the most part eat very healthy but love my chees-its and other bad carb foods which are the devil for me. I have been out almost 4 and a 1/2 years and think that if we don't follow the rules to a T that we will have weight gain. That means meals with protein first, no drinking 30 minutes before and after your meal and exercise exercise exercise!! I guarantee that anyone who doesn't follow these rules will gain some of their weight back its a fact I know I did and I was one of the most straight laced follow the rules person but over time things were working so well for me that I figured that I was invincible and no matter what I did I would not gain any of the weight back. well Guess what??. I had my plastics and couldn't do my usual work outs and I gained 15lbs over the two surgeries and not following the rules because I was being ****y and thought I was was this invinsible individual. So for me the 5 day pouch test was way for me to feel good about myself and a way from me to get my empowerment back about my pouch. I have admited before about my addiction to Dove dark chocolate and Diet pepsi neither was good for me and for anyone else for that matter. The funny thing was I went over two years without drinking pop after my surgery. I can understand your feelings being a newbie and I am sure you have done a great job and I feel very sorry for the people that are struggling in such a short time after having surgery I know their pain but I am the type of person that when I set my mind too it I know I can get better at this and make this a life long change. So far I haven't failed I feel like I just gotten off track and doing the 5 days has gotten me both off of carbs and my addiction to Diet Pepsi and let me tell you after day 3 I am feeling the best I have and also slept the best I have in a long time so it is working for me. Can I say that I will never get off track again? I'm sure I will but the great thing after doing this is I know that my tool still works and that is worth being on this program and suffering throught the first two days of solid liquids. Sorry this is long but I feel that I have to but my two cents worth in when I feel this post may be directed at me.
Here is a link to the site if people want more information and understand more about the 5 day pouch test and what it is all about.

I agree with what Barb said and I think I may have acted in defense of my self . Barb was not the clearist on what LD she was talking about so hence my post. I for one couldn't agree more with her statement although I feel it was a little strong for a post she hit it right on the head. One of the things that NUT's allways talk about is not eating all your protein as liquid because it just passes through you and you get little nutrition from the source when you can eat protien dense Better choices that will stay longer with you and thats why I posted more information about the 5 day pouch test becsue it has great information about slidder foods and how they just cause weight gain and no other valu because they go through your system so fast. Barb I'm sorry if you took my post in anyway other than informational and explaining why I went on the 5 day pouch test. Enough Said!
