Do you ever see your surgeon post op?

I was just wondering if it was normal just to meet with the nurses in the years after surgery, or should I be checking in with the surgeon periodlically, too?  At three years out, I have not once met with the surgeon, just his nurse for follow up care.  Is this correct?  Just wondering!  THANKS! Lori, that would depend on your clinic.  My WLS was through FVSD, Dr. Benn, and I've actually seen him three times during thisclose to two years out.  I'd suggest checking with your clinic.  Good luck!  Hugs galore, Patti

Lori, So far I've only seen the nurse, but at 1 year I will see the Doctor then at 2 years, etc. You may want to call and check to see if you were supposed to see him or when you get to see him. Kelly

Lori~I went through PNC/Methodist for my surgery and it is my understanding (I am only going on 6 months out) that the nurses handle all of the follow up care.  If you are really concerned about this I am sure you could call and speak to someone regarding this matter.  ~Nicole

Lori I meet with my surgeon every 6months for the first 5 years and then once a year after that so they can keep an eye on you. :) I have seen my surgeon a few times in 4 1/2 years. Mostly the nurse practitioner. I guess they have too many patients to get to everyone. Jim

On my one year anniversary.

I'm three years out and have never seen my surgeon again (I went through Mayo's program).  I always see the dietician, and then most times the nurse practitioner, or a few times the endocrinologist that coordinates my care down there.  I went every three months the first year, then every six months, and now I'll go every year.  I would think the surgeon would want to see us at some point again to see how we're doing, but not so far!

I think I saw him on my first post-op visit and not since then (3 years.) Take care, J

I have Tom Jones. I think it's normal to see the nurses and other doctors there. They are the ones in charge of the care. He is the guy in charge of getting us through the surgery. That's how I see it. I suppose if we really wanted to meet with him, we could ask. He saw me in the hospital post op. That was the last time.
