I strive for imperfection...
http://www.bandstergal.blogspot.com
Thank you so much you gals/guys for motivating me to keep on keeping on!
Elena.. I find your information regarding lap band surgery so informative... you have done a great job helping the rest of us and perhaps people thinking about the band go into with a great insight. With that said your " Strive for Imperfection" blog is intersting to me. You had this surgery... a very serious surgery to have you move forward to lose the weight and be healthy. No days off... no slip ups being a givin... its a complete change of lifestyle and habits. Not an attempt at it or an I hope this works attitude. I use the example of, if you had a heart transplant, would you " strive for imperfection" perhaps one day not taking the medication that keeps that heart beating? Or would you do anything you could to make that heart beat perfectly in your body. This WLS needs to be thought of in the same regard and seriousness. We made this choice as a last hope to become a size 12, 8 or 3 or even a size 0. You will make mistakes... but to go into this ready and forgiving yourself already is a bad message I think to send. I respect your point of view but think one needs to approach this with the seriousness and respect it deserves. Sincerely Linda
Start Weight - 263
Current Weight 135 and making it work for ME !

I agree with you whole heartedly, and totally understand what you said about what you have done before.... I have done the same thing. If it didn't work before, why would it work now? Self forgiveness is so important in our lives, not just WLS. Once we figure out we are not perfect, nor is it in our power to reach perfection, then we have the best opportunity to do something about it... I think your outlook is perfect!
I want to start this post with my continued thank you -- I find your blogs very informative and soooo inspiring for those in all stages, and all types, of the WLS surgery. I have recommended your blogsite to a few people and I truly appreciate your information for them. And I know the website is very popular with other bandsters who look to you for answers to some of their questions. But, as Linda said, I too found your blog a little disturbing. Since I'm okay with giving a butt kicking because we all need that too, here goes..... You made a commitment to the doctors who performed the surgery, the nurses who will continue to see you over the years, the psychologists, physical therapists, and dieticians, and TO YOURSELF, that you were commited to following this plan and changing your lifestyle. And doesn't one of your videos also state "we should consult with our doctors"? I'm sure I'm going to start this crap all over again but..... -- in my "piss and vinegar perfect little soldier" post, I asked everyone to ask their doctor if this type of behavior is permitted in the plan. If it is -- go for it; but if it isn't, then it is wrong. I don't think your doctor's instruction's included permission to give yourself a day off. You need to "keep on keeping on" every day!!! Everyone will have slip ups.....but giving yourself permission to do so as a long term goal isn't right. This is suppose to be the last stop on the weight train and just like train tickets, you can't jump on and off for one fare. I still love you to death and hope this doesn't spur any bad feelings but I think you need to have a talk with yourself on how you are going to change your lifestyle the healthy way. XXOO
