Mayo
I actually had my surgery at Mayo. You'll see an endrocrinologist first, who will coordinate all your care there. When all pre-op reqauirements have been met, you'll meet with a surgeon. Some only do open, some do lap, and some do both. (They only do RNY at Mayo). Who you get placed with kinda depends on if you can have lap surgery or not. I could, and was placed with one who only did lap. As far as insurance coverage, I'm pretty sure it's covered. I interned there this year for school and met a couple employees who'd had the surgery. I don't know what their insurance is, but I'm sure it's covered.

Thanks. I actually work for a laqrge health care corporation that has it's own health plan and has gastric bypass programs at some of their hospitals. And their insurance does NOT cover the procedure. They actually offer a 50% coverage, but the corporate HR (which is owned by the same corporation as the insurance) chose not to pick that option up. They are talking about offering it next year, but I hope to be gone by then.
