I too think you were brave to know this wasn't right for you at this moment. Maybe there is a counselor you could talk to to help you sort out your feelings and fears and be able to work with the person for a few weeks or months however long it takes to see what the best option is for you.

Don't worry about changing your mind. As many others have said above me, it just wasn't your time for surgery. It is better to know before surgery than after.
Again - as the others have said - don't avoid your dr. and surgery team - they are here to help you. They want to make sure that you are ready for this - not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. In fact, the last 2 mentioned are probably more important than the physically ready for it as you are going to be changing physically, but the mental/emotional part of this trip is VERY REAL. If you aren't mentally/emotionally ready, it makes for an even more difficult trip.
Take the time you need to get things thought through and make a decision that you can feel good about - what ever that decision may be, we are here to support you - so don't be a stranger!

I was wondering why I didn't hear from you! I hoped everything was okay. Yes, if you weren't ready, it was best to back out now. You really do have to be ready for the surgery and it's good you're going to take time to re-evaluate things. You're NOT a failure! You're right about having to get your thoughts together - only you will know if and when it's right for you!
