Any one want to give my their opinion on Curves?  I'm thinking about joining but I feel so self-conscious when I do any type of exercise stuff which has always kept me away from joining any type of gym.  When you go to Curves do you feel welcomed and comfortable?   I'm thinking of joining either the Plymouth, Minnetonka, or Wayzata locations all seem to be about the same distance away from me.  Anyone know what kind of hours they have I'd like to go before work in the morning but not sure when they are open.  Also anyone know the monthly cost (I know probably depends on if there are promotions or not right now but trying to figure about an average how much I might need to spend).

Well I am way over here in ND LOL. I have belonged to curves a couple yrs. I have not been able to be active in it for over a yr do to back issues. IMO I kept up my membership so that after surgery hopefully I will be able to go and use their equipment. It is all hydraulic,no weights to take on and off. IMO it does more toning then anything. I have always found ours to be friendly and it helps, that it is ALL women there. Yep there are some skinny ones to but it doesn't seem to matter on what your size is, your treated the same. I joined when they ran one of those specials where ya didnt have to pay that big membership fee,if you signed on for 1 yr and had the payments taken right out of your account monthly. That made it even easier. I pay 29.00 a month and that price must be locked in or something cause it has never went up LOL
I hope this all helps.  Remeber that MN motto is Minnesota nice.. so you should be fine LOL

Thanks for posting these questions.  I've been considering joining as well but feel self-consious cuz I'm still pretty large.  My insurance gives a discount, too, so I really should get my butt over to the nearest location.

Kathy, the woman that owns either the Mtka or the Wayzata one (I'm not sure) has come to PNC support group a time or two, and she will give you a discount if you identify yourself as a PNC bariatric patient!  I believe her name is Tracy - dark hair, really pretty.  If you call either and ask for Tracy, you should be able to figure out which one it is.  (I think, actually, she owns one and her mother owns the other...)

Let us know what you decide!  I still haven't joined a gym or a club, but now that there are new SNAP fitness centers all over near my work and home, I really want to do so once fall comes!  My DH even mentioned (after seeing his "gut" in the tiger photo) that HE'D like to work out and try to shave that sucker down!

Hey Kathy!

I go to the Curves in Wayzata. It's owned by Bobby... who is very talkative and lovely... she has lost 70lbs or so... a constant battle with weight. One of her daughters had Bypass. The other is looking into the LapBand.

I felt really welcomed.... and I really enjoy going. There are people of all sizes and ages and it's a good and quick time. It's in the Bay Center right now but will move in a year or two (but there shouldn't be any  gap period where it will be closed, Bobby said)

Their hours are:
MON - THURS: 6am to 8pm
Friday - 6am to 7pm
Saturday 7am to 12pm
Sunday -Closed

Their #: 952-258-1000

I pay about $45 or so a month...but if you have HealthPartners, Medica, (and some others),  they may pay for $20 a month of it. They have a contract, sort of, but it's not too huge if you decide to leave during that time.

So that leads me to believe that Bobby is the mom, and Tracy is the daughter who owns the Minnetonka Curves.  (I didn't mention that she had RNY surgery - but she has, thus, the discount to her PNC surgery sisters!)

I think the deal with most of the insurance rebates is that you have to go a certain number of times each month - it's either 8 or 12 visits per month (2-3 per week) to get the $$ back.  It's not in the form of a discount.

Yep you are right about the discount.

Bobby says she owns the Wayzata one and the Hopkins one.

I have been a member of Curves for 4yrs now...joined RIGHT after my WLS. 11mos later I became an employee there. I don't have time right now (gotta get my DS#1 to Boy Scout camp) but would be happy to answer any questions about any aspect of it from $$/cost to atmosphere (at least at most of them in general), ways to get specials, the ladies that go, etc.
