Getting negative feedback

Some days it all just gets so frustrating!  In the last month, I've gotten quite a few snide comments about my weight loss like "you don't look like you've lost that much weight", "so and so weighs that much but doesn't look as big as you", etc. etc. etc.  Good gravy!  Why, oh why, did I wait soooo long to have this surgery?  Thank goodness I can take most of the comments with a grain of salt, but it still irritates me at times.  And why is it that comments from your family always sting the most?  *sigh*  I guess it's probably because we try to please them the most.

On the other hand, one of my oldest and dearest friends took me mini golfing this past weekend and kept commenting on how well I'm doing and how amazed they are at my weight loss.  Thank God for friends like that :)

Lois...
Family can be the worst critics. Let it roll off your back.

We all know how hard you are working and how great you look. Don't get discourged. You have come along way baby!!!

Hugs, connie d

Thanks, Connie.  I'm not really discouraged - more disappointed.

Thanks, Erika!  Those grains of salt just tend to add up some days.

Your mention of the grain of salt made me think that maybe you should carry around a bottle of salt and when people make comments like that just shake a little out of it and when they ask what you're doing - just tell them that you're taking their comment with a grain of salt.  Maybe that will make them think.

OR

The other thing that I've always told people to say when someone says something stupid to them is "I bet that sounded better in your head."  It's non-defensive, yet makes them think about what they're saying and how it sounds to you and/or others.

Good luck, there are always people looking to see you fail - Make it your mission to PROVE THEM ALL WRONG!!!

Take care sweets!

You are too funny, Tracy!  I LOVE your non-defensive phrase and will definitely be using it in the future.  And, I know I owe you an email.  Sorry I've been such a putz!

Lois--you're doing a GREAT job!!  Don't let any disparaging remarks discourage you.

And you know what 'they' say--you can pick your friends,  you can pick your nose, you can even pick your friend's nose--but you can't pick your family!

And yup-- friends like that are AWESOME!
