How do you beat the nighttime munchies?
Okay I am pooling my resources and trying to get some good ideas for how to beat the nighttime munchies. I can do really well all day at work, but then I go home and snack before and after dinner. I have tried eating dinner at different times, but it doesn't seem to make that big of a difference. Any ideas you might have or that work for you would be greatly appreciated!
Nicole,
I've been having dinner at 6pm. and then around 7:30pm. I have one of those New Whey protein bullets 3oz. 42 grams of protein......And yogurt if I feel the need.....And if I need something to chew on I eat carrots, or celery with a little cream cheese, or an apple.......Hope this helps a little...

Have you tried eating lunch at a different time? For me, I realized part of my problem was that I was eating lunch with my coworkers at 11:30am which was much too soon after my breakfast (at 9am) and much too long before my dinner (sometimes around 6pm). I pushed back my lunch 1 hour and I don't have hunger anymore before dinner - of course, I lost the companionship with my coworkers, but I felt my body was more important.
Also, I know you focus on drinking a lot of water - do you keep your water consumption consistent throughout the day/evening? For me, I was finding that I really lessened my water consumption at the end of the day and this resulted in more "hunger" that was probably thirst actually.
A third idea - keep busy. I find that I don't think about food unless I am sitting on my duff doing something mindless (watching tv, playing video games). The more I get away from that, the less I think about eating.
Finally, as my doctor says, plan a healthy snack for yourself (because, he says, you are human and humans like to "treat themselves" sometimes). If you plan something healthy to eat around those times, then you won't feel like you are prohibiting or depriving yourself. For me, my special treat is a SF fudge pop - 35 calories of "dessert" - something I don't get much of any more. Of course, I like the 100 cal bags of pretzels and popcorn too - but as Sesame Street says, I am trying to make those a "sometimes" food.
Good luck Nicole! I'm sure that you will continue to improve in this - you've really been devoting a lot of attention to it.

Nicole....I try to keep busy but I always have some kind of snack. Usually fruit....like an apple with peanut butter....mixed fruit...things like that. Sometimes I have a few almonds too.
I have SF pudding now and then too. I love the Jello brand...dark chocolate raspberry, caramel etc......YUMO!!
I try to stay away from high carb things as much as I can. If I want carbs I usually have rice cakes or something like that.
I have also found the the denser the protein I have at my evening meal the longer it stays with me.
Hope you find something that work for you.
