Peanut butter

I was checking out the peanut butter while shopping today. Do any of you add peanut butter to your diet to get a little extra protein? I was thinking of adding a tablespoon of it as a snack with my sugar free carnation instant breakfast.

I am not against protein shakes/powders etc. But really want to try to get the majority of my protein from my food. But of course, if that is going to be tough-I will certainly add a protein shake.

I was looking at all the different varieties, and was just curious if anyone found a really good one..low sugar, high protein.

 Thanks!

Hi Natalie,
The two times I have made a protein shake with 1 T. peanut butter & 1/2 banana I dumped a little.  It could have been the pbutter or the banana (haven't tried a banana since).  But since then I have purchased PB2 which is a powdered low-fat, low-sugar, pbutter (very good) and I don't have a problem with it.  Found it on line-just google PB2.  The least amt. they sell is 4-6.5 oz. jars I think it came out to about $4-5/jar.
My kids like it too.

I do have peanut butter maybe once per week now.  It has a lot of fat and calories with not a lot of corresponding protein.  My surgery center does not allow me to supplement or drink any calories (including protein) so getting sufficient protein is still very hard for me to do.

I don't have any good PB recommendations.  I eat reduced fat Skippy when I eat PB - I want something that's easily accessible in the store.

Hi Natalie

I eat peanut butter a few times a week. We have a store here in Reno where you can grind the peanuts and make your own natural peanut butter. It's very yummmmmy!! Most peanut butter manufacturers put in extra stuff. Some brands you have to watch the sugar. Hope this helps.

Natalie....I have peanut butter every once in awhile....usually on apple slices. I use Skippy reduced fat. It has 4 grams of sugar and 7 grms of protein in 2 tablespoons. It is a nice change every now and then.

Watch the sugar content!!

I occasionally eat peanut butter.  Sometimes I just have a teaspoon or so and that satisfies me.  I may have some on half an English muffin or a few crackers.  I buy the "Real" brand peanut butter, which only contains peanuts and a little salt (less than 1%).  It comes in creamy or chunky.  It's found in the refrigerated section by the bagels.  It's got 9gm of protein and 2gm of sugar per 2 tablespoons.

There are sugar free peanut butters at Cub in the refrigerated aisle where they have the egg beaters.  It expires faster than regular peanut butter and it is stored in the refrigerator.
