OT: Magnesium Citrate

I unfortunately am having surgery tomorrow to remove cysts from my right ovary.  The doctor is requesting that I do a bowel prep.  I did do this before my WLS almost five years ago but I remember having a horrible time with it and it making me really sick.  Does anyone have any recommendations of what to get (certain brand or flavoring of magnesium citrate) and how to take it to make it tolerable to get down?  This was the worst part for me even when I had WLS.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please say a little prayer that all goes well.....

Hugs, Cathy

If you like the taste of sprite do the lemon lime. Put it in the freezer, get as cold as possible and drink as fast as possible to avoid taste buds.  That is how I did that last one.

More power to ya, and Hope that the surgery goes well,

Hi Cathy!

I don't recall the brand of bowel prep that I used, but it was a cherry flavored Citrate of Magnesium that came in a glass bottle. I put it in the fridge overnight. I didn't mind the taste. It was like a tart cherry soda with tiny little bubbles in it.

So if you like sprite, then get the lemon lime. If you don't mind cherry, then get that flavor. But I agree, the colder the better.

Good luck. I hope everything goes well!

Get yourself a magazine or 3, chug your poison of choice as quickly as you can, and settle in for the fireworks.

Sorry, Cathy.... seriously, I hope your procedure goes smoothly, and you're up & at 'em in no time!!!

Thank you all for the prayers and recommendations.  I ended up getting cherry magnesium citrate in the glass bottle, it's chilling in the freezer now.  I'll be sure to gather magazines, word finds, etc to keep me occupied in the restroom.  The sx is outpatient.  I'll be glad when tomorrow evening comes and I'm comfy in my bed knowing I made it through another run of magnesium citrate.

Thanks again...Cathy

I did the lemon/lime. It was pretty tolerable as far as mag cit goes. Make sure it's ice cold and drink with a straw.

Good luck with your surgery!!!

Hugs,
Lori
