Anyone have WLS at Mayo Clinic in Rochester?

Wondering if anyone has WLS at Mayo in Rochester. I am scheduled Oct 1st, and just getting a little nervous about the whole thing.

There are so many differences between what Abbott Nw does in the cities compared to here. I have a friend having surgery there at the end of October and we have been comparing notes.

Just would like to see how your experience was- how long in hospital. I am hoping to have laproscopic and they told me 2 weeks out of work, everyone else I talk to can not believe that short of time and are really scaring me. I have no benefits and can not be off that long with 3 kids and a family.

Any help would be great!!

I had my surgery at Mayo in Rochester.  I had lap RNY and was in the hospital for three days.  My surgeon said 4 weeks off work, and my endocrinologist there told me 6 weeks, so I took 6.  They said it wasn't so much for recovery from the surgery, but to get used to the new way of eating.  I know for me, two weeks off would not have been enough, even though I had a desk job.  Luckily, the job I was in at the time afforded me the time off.  I did have to take the first 10 days as sick/vacation time, then went on short-term disability.  I've had no complications and would do it again in a heartbeat if I had to!

I didn't have my surgery at Mayo but I can comment on how I felt after surgery.  I was in the hospital I think 3 days.  The first 2 days were uncomfortable but the day I left the hospital I felt great.  Granted I still didn't have all my energy back but I certainly didn't feel like I just had a major surgery.  If it wasn't for the incesions across my belly I would have questioned if I even had surgery.

I was suppose to take 3 weeks off from work after surgery but I felt so good afterwards and couldn't stand being home any longer that I got the OK to go back after 2 weeks.  The only down part was that I was really tired by the end of the day but other than that I had no problems. If you have a job where you are on your feet all day you might want to take at least 3 weeks off but if you have a desk job I think 2 weeks is ok.
