Sew What? Pricing information and a nice WOW for me.
Hi all,
I took a lot of my expensive interviewing clothes to the Sew What? in Richfield a couple of days ago. Most of them were still brand new with tags, but a couple of years old because my mom had given them to me as birthday and Christmas gifts so that I would have some really nice business clothes to interview in. In the mix there were 3 skirts, 1 pair of lined pants, and 2 blazers. The only work that I requested was taking in the waists on the skirts and pants, and on the blazers shortening the sleeves and doing something to the back to make them fit. Throughout the fitting the seamstress kept telling me that it was going to be very expensive to do this and the bill came to $262 - a lot, but still much less expensive than fully replacing these items with the same level quantity. It will work for this first round of interviews, but if they don't fit by the second round then I will go out and buy less expensive things in my current size (I'm getting pretty close to wearing sizes that I can find inexpensively). Anyway, the rest of this post will by my WOW story so you skip it if you just wanted price information.
My WOW story from the seamstress - most of these clothes were WAY too big for me and I don't think that the seamstress really wanted to do the alterations because it was so significant. She kept making comments and then finally asked me, "Why did you buy these clothes in this size? Didn't they have your size at the store?" I had already told her many times that I had lost weight, but I finally looked at her when she asked this question and said, "That *was* my size when I bought them. I've lost a *lot* of weight." When she heard that she grabbed the back of the jacket she was pinning out from my body and said, "I'm taking 6 inches out in this spot alone - it's not possible to lose that much weight." I told her that I had, she asked how, I told her. I'm not shy about that. I know she was probably taking her questions too far, but I was really proud of how far I've come.
On a different note, now that I'm smaller and don't have to accept any item of clothing that comes in my size, I realized after all her pinning was done that I would never buy those outfits today. Both of the jackets were long blazers - going well past my stomach and hitting the top of my thigh. That length makes me look so much bigger because it hides my waist and all of my curves - I look much better in cropped jackets that end at the waist. Yes, you can see my big gut, but at least then only 1 part of me looks big instead of all of me.
I'm so happy with my weight loss! I don't even know how much I've lost since I last weighed myself on 9/12 and I don't care - I look better, I get compliments everyday, and I feel just so much better. This surgery really really really works!

Wow - you handled yourself very well with the seamstress - way to go - and it sounds like you have done an amazing job already with your weight loss - keep up the good work!
I think you did a wonderful job with that seamstress. I might have been a little more frank with her. It is difficult when you are in those sizes that you just have to accept whatever there is. I completely understand. Hopefully I will not be there much longer.
Congratulations on your loss and keep up the great work.

Sounds like the seamstress needs a lesson tact! I can't believe how much she pushed about the size. It's great you're so excited about your decision to have WLS, and you've done SO well already & feeling better. YEAH!

Congratulations on your WOW! As far as situations similar to the seamstress, I nip 'em in the bud by pulling out my 'before pic', full length of me at 249 lbs, size 22W or 24W pants and 20W tops the month before surgery. Good thing I laminated the pic, as I show it so often.....and so proudly! Yeay you! Hugs, Patti
Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

Awwww, that is so awesome!!! Congratulations on your WOW's!
Isn't it amazing though how much better tailored clothing feels and fits? I always heard that and never put too much faith into it because of my size, but I had one item altered to fit me correctly and it was amazing. The sheer difference was so worth the cost of the alteration!
And yeah you for figuring it out as to what flatters you and what doesn't! I say that's a huge brain hurdle you got past!
