Scars?

I am only three and a half weeks out so I know that I'm still healing.  I wondered if the small incicsions...which look very good by the way...will always have hard little lumps beneath the scar itself?

Mine are smaller than a pencil eraser and no lumps at all.  Just a couple of polka dots.

Mine are smaller than a pencil line too, but I wondered if at first there was hard tissue directly under the scar....I hope it's just still healing.  The scar itself is barely noticable already, which I was very shocked about it.  Dr. Svendson knows how to sew people up I guess!

I had my surgery over 9 months ago and mine look dark and you could play hangman  on them but no lumps under them.

Hi Steffanie, at three and a half weeks out, you are still healing.  So glad your incisions are looking good. However, if you are concerned about the little hard bumps, my two cents is to contact your surgeon's office.  I'm just over two years out from laparoscopic RNY, and don't recall having 'hard little lumps'.  However, if this could be helpful to anyone:  at six months out, began taking Vitamin E oil tabs daily, plus gently rubbing vitamin E oil on the scars.  There's also an excellent product called Palmer's Lotion which is effective diminishing scar sites.  Just had final appointment with plastic surgeon yesterday morning, and with double medial thigh lift in nine days, will  eventually have scars on inner thighs from the knees up to the groin.  I've already restarted with taking vit. E, and will proceed for one year post-op.  Wishing you nothing but the best, dear!  Hugs, Patti

The scars fade and get smaller.  I look like a connect the dots maze with the laproscopic scars from my RNY surgery, my gall bladder surgery, and two surgeries relating to ovarian cysts.  Vitamin E tablets - pop them open and put the vitamin e directly on them.  They will fade.

Good luck!

The scar itself is great. I'm not worry about the actual look of the scar.  Will the Vitamin E help the hardness go away?

Some people like myself are prone to what is called Keloid. It is a raising and hardening of scar tissue. Sometimes the scars actually raise up like little bumps, sometimes they are just hard.  Vitamin E, Mederma, aloe, and cocoa butter are all said to help reduce the appearance and soften them, but mine usually dont ever totally go away. The coloring or darkness does usually fade over time usually to a pale white line.
