HAPPY THANKSGIVING, ya'll!!
Nope--my calendar is on the right page.
Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated to correspond with the harvest--and this year falls on Monday the 13th
I'm having the in-laws over for supper tomorrow (Sunday) and with my non-existent budget we are having a fairly simple meal. I am going to try my hand at making the recipe for my mother's 'refrigerator rolls'--which has mashed potatoes in them and you let the mixed dough rise overnight in the fridge--hence the name. My daughter says they're a snap to make and that they're raved over at dinners she's served them at.
So--have a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO YOU!
Happy Turkey Lurkey Day to you!
Thanksgiving meal is one of my least favorite meals, I have never liked stuffing, turkey, cranberries or the sloppy sweet potatoes.
Now after having surgery I am guessing I will like it less LOL
I will try a dab of turkey with some gravy (that I am in charge of making).
My favorite part of the Holiday is "Black Friday"
Yep. that's what it is all about LOL
Happy days!

Yup--pre-surgery Thanksgiving should have been named Glutton Day. I don't think I ever made the marshmallow-pineapple sweet potato casserole. Less likely to do it now--way too sweet! I'm just going to boil the sweet 'taters and serve them mashed.
I was going to roast a large chicken, but could not find a good-sized one. Did find a very small young turkey--so turkey it is. I just don't want to be eating turkey FOREVER.
What is 'Black Friday'? Oh wait--is that when stores open early and people have been camping outside places with good deals? That just doesn't happen up here. I guess Canadians on a whole are more conservative.

Turkey tends to grow and grow. It shows up in many side dishes after the Holidays LOL
Yes, black Friday is the shopping day LOL I love the hustle and bustle of it all.
You used to have a holiday that was called "box day" I think (see if memory works) that it was the day after Christmas and people switched jobs for the day (woman of house switched with the maid vice versa). Didn't that later become a shopping day, maybe people took gifts back for exchange?

You're pretty close--'Boxing day' is Dec. 26, and is when people 'box' up the wrappings. Shopping on the 26th and Sundays, and minor holidays did not happen until maybe 15 or 20 years ago. Even Wally Mart closes Dec 24, and 25 and has shorter hours on the 26th. Most retail places are closed on Thanksgiving.
Like I said-- Canadians are pretty conservative folks!

WOW is all I can say. Our stores are open here always. They do close on Christmas eve tho. Wally world is open Thanksgiving! LOL
I am one of those people who needs a store to be open. Not that I will go to the store but just knowing I can if I want too LOL
Retail therapy is grand!

There was a real uproar when stores were able to open on Sundays! Now it seem like any other day of the week.
I remember when I had to drive my sister to the Minneapolis airport Christmas Day and drive back to Thunder Bay the same day. I was a little concerned about finding gas stations open so I could get gas. But the good ol' Holiday Station was open--just shorter hours--no problem!
Maybe the bigger cities like Toronto or Winnipeg have special opening deals, but Thunder Bay is pretty backwards.
