I finally have a surgery date!!!
Hello everyone! I am so excited! Finally, after over a year and a half of countless dr appts, dietitians, pysch evals, testing, therapy, diet journals, phone consultations, phone calls to the insurance company, etc I finally have a surgery date!!! It is Friday October 17th, 2008! I had four hours of dr appts on Thursday, Oct 09, including the pre-surgery consult, the nutritionist and the pre-op physical and blood draw. Physical was good and I have the green light!. I am so excited and so nervous at the same time. I have never had surgery before, so that is making me nervous. The hubby will be home for a few days to make sure that I am doing ok. I will have sixteen days off from work and will be on restrictive duty for four to six weeks afterwards. Plus I get the surgeon that I want. Dr. Walter Medlin! Apparently I will be having the surgery at SMDC-Superior (Those in Northern Duluth/Superior area of MN/WI know this hospital) I wanted it in SMDC-Duluth, but it was explained to me that they want more surgeries performed in Superior, so they said that the gasteric bypasses will be done at SMDC-Duluth and the lap bands will be done at SMDC-Superior.
So I am on the liquid diet right now, so far, so good, but I am missing solid foods and sometimes I feel like I could stab somebody (J/K!) People at work order food all the time and my mouth jus****ers, and I have to be on this diet for three weeks! Ugh-Universe-help me!
If any one has any comments or anything to help ease the nervousness of the surgery and what to expect or any positive insight, comments or helpful tips it would be truly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'm not perfect but I am going to die trying!!!
Wow, you really hung in there to make this happen. Good for you! With an attitude like that, you'll be successful. You'll experience lots of emotions in the next couple of weeks - before and after surgery. They are all normal. Just remember - you are doing a wonderful thing for yourself and your health. And remember to be patient with the band. It's a marvelous tool, but the weight loss is slow. Be sure you've got your mind wrapped around that fact. I love my band!
Hope all goes well with your surgery. Jean B.

Kristina, just hang in there and don't freak out! Remember how hard you have worked to get to this point and how bad you want this and don't let fear or anything else take that from you.
As for the liquid diet, I wish I could help. It just sucks, and that's all there is to it. I'm 6 days post-op (RNY) and on liquids, but it's not so hard because I'm not physically hungry. The head hunger however is very annoying.
I was really nervous going into surgery too, but it's like, before you know it, the IV is in and they're wheeling you into the O.R. and telling you to think happy thoughts, and you're out like a light! You wake up in your hospital bed and for me there wasn't much pain at all. The worst thing I think was the dry mouth. OMG I wanted to drink water so bad. All they give you is these darn sponge swab things that you can swipe your mouth out with and spit, but that's it. They make you get up and walk around, and they make you take a shower and everything. The nurses are in your room every 2 hours taking vitals and asking how your pain is. I just wanted to sleep and the one nurse was very annoying with wanting me to get up and around, until I explained to her that I work overnights and sleep in the daytime and am awake all night, then she backed off a little.
But anyway, just remember why you are doing this, and that hundreds of people have done it before you, and this board is a wonderful place to come for support and venting, etc. You'll be fine!! Make sure someone posts for you after your surgery too. We would love to know how you're doing!

Hi Kristina,
Congrats on your date. I feel for you about the restricted food b4 surgery I can't imagine what that part will be like
, I am about a year into the pre-op and was just told not before the end of the year like i'd hoped so probably in early spring. I also am in the Duluth area and will be at the smdc clinic probably same surgeon.
Ps-Have you checked out the wls support group that they have through the clinic? Last Thursday of each month, if so do you have any thoughts on this.
Best of Luck to you,
TrishG
